LIKE other immigrants to AMERICA in the early years, they were sponsored by family or others, Most had a trade and was need to help build a new country. My GG grandfather was a shoemaker and was sponsored to come to AMERICA as some people wanted shoes to wear. There were many other Trades Farmers, Winemakers, Carpenters, Wool Growers, and the list goes on and on.. They came to work. No welfare, no food stamps, they were only promised a JOB. MY line was Spahler, Spooler, Sparler, Spalin, Spharler. So far I have been able to find over 20 different Spellings. ----- Original Message ----- From: "lhibbard" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, November 09, 2008 3:40 PM Subject: Re: [G-P-L] Surnames > Why do all the German immigrants always go off to America?. > > I have FISCHER, 1850's to New Zealand from Zwickau, Germany. > > And many other names as well. > > Les. > #17255 > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "pkuehn" <[email protected]> > To: "Maria Minear" <[email protected]>; > <[email protected]> > Sent: Monday, November 10, 2008 2:30 AM > Subject: Re: [G-P-L] Surnames > > >>I have Fischer from the Thumb area also.Carl/Charles Fischer & wife >>Carolina >> of Sachen Germany .Came about 1871/72.Lived/farmed in Spring Wells, >> Detroit >> area ,then moved to the Thumb.Daughter Amelia wed John Wolgast. >> Johns father Christian lived near Fischer w/ wife Dora. >> Any connection yet? >> Phil Kuehn >> [email protected] >> ----- Original Message ----- >> From: "Maria Minear" <[email protected]> >> To: <[email protected]> >> Sent: Saturday, November 08, 2008 9:10 PM >> Subject: Re: [G-P-L] Surnames >> >> >>> >>> Oh my, I have a Fisher who m into my Brumm line and also a Pohl. Hello Wolf, We really need to know what you prefer we do...these surnames are adding up quickly and it will only keep building. Also, it should not matter about the lists from Brasil...just like the German names, I could never begin to pronounce them, but can copy letter for letter. My personal opinion is to list every country together...not make a list for Germany and one for Brasil...then yet another one for the US, etc. Daniel
