Would anyone know of someone who could look up 3 records in Berlin Archives for me? The LDS does not have these particular films and has no plans to film them. I posted this on the Berlin list but had no replies. I am not even sure this is where to post for this request. I will give additional information if anyone can help. Thanks in advance. Mary
I have a possible relative who married a Jurgen Haack in Queensland, Australia. My ancestors emigrated to Wisconsin in 1856, but I suspect that due to the Civil War some of the family may have moved to Australia instead. An Australian family website indicates that Jurgen Haack was a deckhand on a ship called the Wandrahm which arrived in Queensland around 1863. It was one of several ships that formed the nucleus of the Bethania Colony which consisted entirely of German emigrants, many from the area northeast of Berlin called the Uckermark. The colonists described themselves as Wendish, meaning they were Germans with Slavic roots. The daughter of a passenger whose maiden name was Lubach, my surname, married Jurgen the Wandrahm deckhand. The ship apparently arrived in Australia with several cases of typhoid aboard so the passengers and crew were quarantined for about a year, a circumstance that may have contributed to their romance. Numerous subsequent Haacks married into the Bethania colony. If I recall correctly, Jurgen came from the Schleswig Holstein area which was part of Denmark until it was ceded to Germany in 1871.
Has anyone used this web site? http://www.webgenealogie.de/
Hello Marge The HAACK surname is fairly common around Berlin Germany and around Stettin, Pommern , Prussia. The name is pronounced " HAWK " . According to My Mother. In the GTA volumes , the name is misspelled HACK , and also that is the way that it is pronounced around the town of Cuba MO. , U.S.A. I looked up our Haack family. Bertha Schlink was married to Frank Haack born in Shakopee. His father was Arnold born 1881 in Shakopee. His father was Frank born in Wisconsin. Frank's father was John and Caroline . John born abt 1835 in Bavaria. Even found ship records dated Oct 7 1857 on the Doctor Barth there was a large family immigrating at the same time all listed from Bayern. John was 22 and apparently not married. The immigrants were headed for Wisconsin, so relatively sure they were the right family. So they may or may not be related. How common is the Haack name? I always thought it quite unusual marge -------------------------------------------------- From: "Ursula B. Hello Marge The Bernhard Haack family first stayed in the town of Oswego ,New York. My Grandmother Augusta H. W. Haack was born there in Oswego, N.Y. in 1873. There the next location of Them were in the 1880 census of Crawford county of MO. There was a Wilhelm Haack that was on the same ship "Christel" That They left on , from the port of Bremen of Germany. I do not know where the Willhelm Haack , settled at in the U.S.A. Their records of Pommern , seem to be from a town that the IGI , and the " Batch " numbers did not record. I sometimes suspect that Bernhard was not His first name , but is His middle name .
