    3. Hello! my name is Michael from Kirtorf/Hessen in Germany I'm searching for relatives, which have ancestors with the surname "HERRMANN" , also written "HERMANN" John Theodore Herrmann (he was the head of the family, that immigrated to the USA) born as Johann Theodor Herrmann, son of Johann Jost Herrmann in Bernsburg near my hometown Kirtorf in the former 'Grossherzogtum Hessen-Darmstadt' he was married with Katharina Dorothea Krieger, she had 1 brother Johannes, 1 sister Maria Katharina, who was married with Konrad Jakoby, my great-great-grandfather, 1 sister Elisabeth and 1 brother Heinrich Krieger, married with Karoline Zulauf, this couple also went into the USA John T. Herrmann and his wife emigrated in 1872 from Bernsburg to Lansing/Michigan with then already born 5 children if someone has informations about these Herrmanns of Lansing and how they came to there, I would be pleased to hear from! greetings Michael

    3. I have not been able to find any immigration records for Josephine Weidemann born 11 Dec 1902 Wuttemburg, Germany, her sister Theresa Weidemann Kuchle b. abt. 1894, another sister, Lena Weidemann Ludwig b. abt. 1893 and a brother Louis Weidemann b. abt. 1900 all born in Wuttemburg, Germany. The little information I have is that Josephine Weidemann immigrated to the US around the end of 1924. Her sisters supposedly immigrated with their husbands before that time, but in the early 1900's. Louis Weidemann immigrated in the same time period. Theresa's husband was Joseph Kuchle. Lena's husband was a Mr. Ludwig. Louis was not married when he immigrated. Can anyone help , please? I have checked Ellis Island records and found nothing. Thank you, Carole [email protected]

    3. Hi Charlotte, At that point in time naturalizations were done on a local level. It was not until 1906 that naturalizations became "federal business." Yes, NARA has some naturalizations before 1906 but that is just good fortune. Look at the courts around the area that your ancestor settled. Bobbi ----- Original Message ----- From: "Charlotte Chase" I have checked the census records and found a few things. I found his intent for naturalization, but not the actual naturalization papers. I was told they exist but NARA, and the office in New York that NARA suggested I contact didn't have them.

    1. [G-P-L] Immigration Question
    2. Good Afternoon group - I wonder if anyone could give me some insight as to possibilities for a surname - I am searching for my Great Grandfather's arrival. I have (I think) covered nearly all ways the name could be spelled or mis-spelled but perhaps someone with a better grasp of German names might have some ideas. Emil Von Der Linden (also spelled Vonder Linden and Vonderlinden) was born 1860 in Bajern, Germany. He arrived in New York 1882. Also arriving in 1882 was his future wife, Annj Marj Woithe who was born 1862 in Preusor, Germany (the locations are taken off a handwritten birth certificate for my grandfather, and this is what the spelling appears to be). I can post the certificate or send it to someone who perhaps can determine what it really says. They married in 1885 in New York and all their children were born in New York. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated - this group has been very helpful to me in the past. Joanne in AZ (I seek dead people). Researching surnames: Case, Dancik, Dashiell, Davenport, Davis, Harkness, Harris, Hoppe, Kocher, Lawson, Lewis, Meyer, Prynn, Schwartz, Thomas, VonderLinden, Waller, Weaver, Woithe

    2. Thankyou, By 1849 she married & moved to Binghamton NY. Her spouse was a minister of the New York Synod. ????? Her daughter , Charlotte, was born in 1852 there. I will continue the search. We have these books here in our library, so I checked for Zarr, Sarr, Saar Sahr etc , and found three entries 1. A Johannes Saar from Schenklengsfeld in vol. 1 and 2 A Henrich Schaar from Kleinalmerode in vol. 4, and a Johannes Sarre from Ehringen, Kreis Wolfshagen. The first two places are on the eastern , "Thueringen" side of Hessen-Nassau, but Ehringen is on the western side and could have been construed as Hessen-Kassel . So that's a possibility to keep in mind for future research. The church records for Ehringen have not been microfilmed by the Family History Library. They may be available in the Lutheran archive in Kassel. You didn't say how much research you have done on this ancestor in U.S. records. In my opinion, this is where you should leave no stone unturned. Look at all the records you can find for Bedford, and the history etc. The Family History Library does have some records, but my guess is that you can find more in local and county archives and historical societies. I would especially look for church records and anything where he himself signed his name , like his will, or a land record. 3. Charlotte, there are quite a few sites on the Internet dealing with Hessian soldiers in America all you need to do is enter "Hessians" or "Hessian Soldiers" into Google and you'll have hours if not days to comb through the information. The first name "Parker" is not a German name but perhaps British. BTW the place is called Hesse-Cassel or Hesse-Kassel.
