Hello. I'm new to this list, and I was wondering if anyone out there is researching German ancestors from Switzerland to Wisconsin, I am particularly interested in those with ancestors immigrating to the Racine area. I would like to hear from anyone with German-Swiss ancestry in the Racine area that might have some tips to help me in my research, but I will also list the specific ancestors I'm researching below: Johann Martin SCHMID was born Bet. 1799 to 1809 in Oberehrendingen, Aargau, Switzerland, and died 25 October 1861 in Raymond, Racine, Wisconsin. (I can't confirm his exact birthdate due to discrepincies between sources.) He married Magdelene FREI in 1840 in Oberehrendingen, Aargau, Switzerland, daughter of Michael August FREI and Maria Anna MEIER. Magdelene FREI was born 03 November 1813 in Oberehrendingen, Aargau, Switzerland, and died 18 April 1893 in St. Louis Cemetery, Raymond, Racine, Wisconsin. Johann and Magdelene emigrated from Switzerland between 1851 and 1854 to a farm in Raymond, Racine County. They changed their name to SMITH and had at least the following children: Adeline (Smith) KEISER, Godard SMITH, Magdalene (Smith) HANSON, Adolph SMITH, Emma SMITH, and Epiphania Gertrude (Smith) MARSCH. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
