Ann: If you are new to genealogy research, here are some of the best FREE online genealogy links that may prove very useful in your research; some are Marathon County-specific: The UW-SP Library in Stevens Point http://library.uwsp.edu/depts/archives/archives.htm has a collection titled: Wausau Centennial Genealogy - 1939. This is a huge collection (50,000 names) of genealogies of Wausau residents. In 1939, to celebrate their centennial, they sent volunteers throughout the city to gather genealogies of all the residents. The collection, which is stored at the library, is indexed by name. If you send an email to the Archivist with the names you are looking for, they will check the index file to see if your name(s) are on file. You can then request a copy of the file(s) to be mailed to you. They charge a nominal fee to copy the records plus postage costs. Each individual file contains a hand-written copy and a type-written copy of the first. I'd request the hand-written one because the type-written one might have missing info. Depending on how large of a genealogy was gathered, there may be up to 10 pages in each file. At 10 cents a copy (or whatever they charge), that's a good deal.
