Thanks to all who gave ideas about checking church records for an ancestor's birthplace. I tried checking my ggrandfather's marriage records in Ft. Atkinson, Jefferson Co but came up empty handed. The civil record of the marriage shows St. John's Catholic Church but they have nothing listed at the church for him. His parents are buried in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Jefferson and I wonder if anyone knows whether there was a St. Joseph's Catholic Church there during the 1880's? His funeral was at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Juneau, Dodge Co in 1944. I've hesitated writing the church because most priests are way too busy nowadays and that's probably the last thing they want to do - look up old records! Naturally, 1944 is too recent for FHL filming to be available.
