I have just amended the list guidelines and the following is now in the welcome message and the home pages for the GERMANS-NE-IA and the GERMANS-WI Lists. OTHER MAILING LIST GUIDELINES No "V CARD" attachments are to be included with any text you send to the list. No commercialized messages of any kind are to be sent to the list. No URLS of a commercialized nature are to be attached to any messages sent to the list. Commercial activities are prohibited on the list. Do not use this mailing list to try to further your business enterprise or another persons' business enterprise. Your message or signature line should not contain any reference or statement concerning your professional or business affiliations. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Do not include "doodles" in your messages. Do not send "chain" letters to the list. Do not send or discuss "virus" warnings on this list. Do not send a message that contains a blank subject line. Do not resend a complete copy of a Digest back thru the list. Do not send "greeting cards" to the list. Do not send any file attachments to the list. Always use plain text in your messages--no "MIME" or enhanced text to be included in your messages. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Endless strings of surnames, permanently attached to and included as part of your signature line are inappropriate and are not to be included in messages sent to this list. Other extraneous information, permanently attached to and included as part of your signature line, such as personal snail mail addresses; home or office phone or fax numbers; URLs associated with your website; your home page URL; your personal or office email address; your ICQ #; your family tree URL; URLs for all your surnames; "cutesy" sayings or quotes and biblical references or quotes, etc in an ad inifinitum string, are inappropriate and are not to be included in your messages sent to this list. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Remember, I'm talking about *endless* strings of the above mentioned items attached to you signature line on a permanent basis, not the occasional piece of information of this nature that you may feel the need to send along with your message to the list. Don't voice your complaints about the list or other subscribers, by sending messages to the list-- send your complaints to the List Manager/Moderator--contact information is listed above. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Be very careful if you discuss an individual who is still alive--don't reveal that persons' first name, their address, their birth date or any other information about that person that would compromise their absolute right to privacy ! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Don't send "TEST" messages to the list, just because you're not sure if you are still registered to the list or because you haven't gotten any messages from the list for a while. If you want to check on your registration status on the list--contact the List Manager or PASSWORD CENTRAL. If the "list" seems too quiet--repost your question or statement to revitalize the list. Keep in mind, people are always coming and going on the list and the newer subscribers are usually a little shy--so help things along by breaking the deafening silence. For that reason alone, you should repost your interests to the list on a regular basis. You don't have to post messages to the list in order to belong to the list; you are most certainly welcome to just sit back and "read" the mail.
