Forwarded by List Admin. >>Subj: East & West Prussia Gazetteer Date: 12/9/2002 9:10:51 AM Central Standard Time From: rloss@bellsouth.net To: GERMANS-WI-L@rootsweb.com Sent from the Internet (Details) The following is a link to East and West Prussia (as in provinces of) that gives you an idea of the churches in each village or the district churches (Kreises) that records were kept. Note please!!!, this is only for the provinces of East and West Prussia, not Prussia as a territory. Obviously, East and West Prussia no longer exist and supposedly the records (some) were moved ahead of the advancing Red Army in WW2. The final repository is suppose to be in Berlin but at this time, I do not have the address. Another link included for the University of Wisconsin- Madison Library for the download of the Ravenstein Atlas (excellent because you can enter the name of a village or city) and come up with a graph indicator of where your place of research is located (if you are not sure). If you download the map to photopaper, you can have an excellent source for your particular "search". The map/atlas (Ravenstein) is for the whole of Prussia/Germany as it was in about 1871.
