    3. Is the Eckel family you are researching the descendents of Phillip Eckel who settled in Port Washington? I have looked for many years for the connections to the Jungs and Eckels in the town of Addison in Washington County. These came from the about the same area in Rhineland-Pfalz near Ulmet and St. Julian. Neal Degner Germantown, WI

    3. Neal, Thanks for the response. IF!!! we are talking about one Philip (variant spellings: German "Philipp") Eckel, born 15. 09. 1824 at Bechhofen, Rheinbayern (now Homburg, Saarland), he was son of Jakob Eckel, born c. 1799 Bechhofen? (son of Michael Eckel & Eva nee Fink); died after 1860 (not at Belgium town?), married 20. 04. 1826 Bechhofen to Catharina Menzner, daughter of Philipp Menzner, musician, died 16. 2. 1818 Mittelberg & Margaretha Wollenweber, died 27. 04. 1814 also at Mittelberg. Other Eckel children should be at Belgium: Theresia Maria Elisabetha born 15. 05. 1827 Bechhofen and Johann George Eckel, born 01. 05. 1831 also at Bechhofen. The father, Jakob Eckel is named "Jakob Eckel II" at births of Theresia and Johann Georg (may be "Rufname" George in later life). Jakob Eckel (perhaps the "first"), Ackersmann (farmer) at Bechhofen, was 32 years old in 1823, married to Elisabetha Clemann (30 years old in 1823), parents of one Johannes Eckel, born 16. 06. 1823 in Bechhofen. Jacob Eckel and wife Catharina are listed in US census for Ozaukee Co., WI 1860: page 93, No. 766, Family No. 656, enumeration date 30. 06. 1860 in the town of Belgium. Jacob "Ekel" age 61 years, male, white, farmer, native of "Bavaria", real-estate value (land $1,500, personal property $300); Catharina "Ekel" , age 63 years, female, white, native of Bavaria. The family were neighbors to Philipp Bold (1800-1881) married to Theresia Eckel! This Philipp is my second great-grandfather. I believe Jakob Eckel (wife Catharina) in Belgium WI was brother to this Theresia Eckel Bold. Philipp Bold and wife Theresia Eckel settled in Belgium in 1846. I don't know (but would like to find out) which family came first, or did they perhaps travel together? What were other circumstances of that immigration. Besides Jakob and Theresia there was also a Friedrich Eckel , born about 1788 in Bechhofen (another brother?) I could find no other Eckels in the area. I have no information on the descent of Philipp Eckel born 1824. Could he indeed be the Eckel you looked for in Washington Co.? (Ozaukee was part of that county at the time). Do the pieces fit? I would be anxious for any additional information. The Eckel records I mention are from the Standesamt at Homburg, Saarland. They can be accessed through the Mormon library (I did my feeble research years ago before any of that was available!). I, too, have looked for years for Eckel descent and a connection in WI. I would be delighted if this pans out! I believe the Eckels must have left the Belgium area after the 1860s. Let me know. Joe in Oakland CA ----- Original Message ----- From: "Neal W.
