    3. Make sure you watch the counties. There is a mix up with Shawano county, some of them are entered as Sheboygan. The county will say Sheboygan, but the city will say Shawano. I remember seeing a note about this when I visited the Area Research Center in Green Bay. When I looked one of my ancestors up from Shawano, I almost missed it because it was listed as Sheboygan, but then noticed the city was Shawano. However, not all of them have Shawano listed as the city!! Tasha Treptow

    1. [GERMANS-WI] Wisconsin Death Records HOW TO
    2. Bob Vircks
    3. I was successful in accessing the Wisconsin State Death Records suggested by Robert Lipprandt. I went to: http://www.vitalsearch-ca.com/gen/wi/_vitals/wideathm.htm and clicked on all the links for instructions and read them all and didn't understand. But eventually it dawned on me. This is long and detailed, but it will lead you step by step thru a process that is neither a highly automated search or very user friendly. Near the top of the opening page click on the word "here" below "1959-1979 Deaths". This should open an extra new window. At the bottom of this new window will be a box and a "Begin Search" button. To the left is a message that says "Enter your Surname here..." Click in the box at the left edge and type the surname that you are interested in and click begin search. This will get a new page. Click on "go to fiche". This will bring up a grid of 207 selectable virtual fiche pages. Now click on the tiny "idx" to the left of "01" and above "B". The brings up a new page that is a list of the first surname on each fiche page. Now figure out where your surname fits in this list and and look at the letter and number code to the right of the name that is just before your surname. Remember this code, for example, "M 04". Now press your browser's "Back" button to get back to that grid. Finally click on the "*" in the appropriate square and an image of a fiche page will appear that should have the surname that you are looking for on it. Ugly, but it works. By the way I was unable to print the page. I had to hand copy the information. Good luck. Bob Vircks

When a cemetery is mentioned (as with your Forest Home), I would assume that it is located off of Forest Home somewhere but not living in your area, I do not have a clue. I have a map of Milwaukee County but cemetery listings are not one of it's high points............ The Archdiocese has a great site as but none of my relatives are Catholic and the Protestant sites are less than helpful with a lack of names listed. At least, if the surnames/names were listed online, a researcher could then write to the cemetery office for further info. Wood also is very good but none of my relatives are there also. Is there a master list somewhere?? Regards, Robert Lipprandt (South Florida) Subject: [GERMANS-WI] Cemetery maps...... 2. As many know on other rootsweb query/message boards know, I am a volunteer for one day at week at historic Forest Home Cemetery of Milwaukee. I also do quite a bit of reading into Milwaukee (City & County) history having read over 25 volumes of history todate (some large, some small). You do not mention any given names for your LUICK family. Here are some of the names with that surname I find: Wm. G. Bruce in his 3rd of 3 volumes has a family history with these names: Marguerite (Mrs. Roman A. Drodesser, Maria Anna (Mrs. Peter Hirschbeoeck), Catherine, Mrs. John nee Monica Adler, John, Mrs. William F. nee Clara B. Bangs, Ida E. John Jr., Jr., William Ferdinand, Adolph J., Mrs. John (ii) nee Elizabeth Hoff, Jacob, Henry C., George F. Jr., Frank X, Mrs. Jacob nee Elisabeth, & Edna. The Scrapbooks of Forest Home Cemetery has mentioned mr. & Mrs. William (Clara Bang). John G. Gregory in his 1st of 4 volumes has William F. Western Historical Publishing Co.'s of 1881 has Joachim F. In regards to the Traub surname I only find: The Traub family in the Scrapbooks Mrs. Moritz H. nee Tillie Schlungbaum, M. H., Moritz H., Hugo, J.B., and Carl in Bruce's 1st & 2nd volumes. I have not had a chance to check the burial records of the cemetery which was founded in 1850 but will do so Friday if yoiu so desire. I do not charge anything for looking this information up. The only cost would be a $1.00 fee to the cemetery should you desire anything photocopied and mailed to you: this, of couirse, would cover photocopying costs, paper, envelope and postage charges. All of the above volumes of history are located in the private library of the cemetery and are not open to the public because of their fragile state. Some of the others are not at the cemetery butare ones I checked out of the Brookfield Public Library. I give all of the above information so that others on this message board who would want information searched by me in these sources will be aware of my willingness to do so. Bob of Brookfield

    3. Hi Clarine, My great-great-great-grandfather Ludwig BELZER was married to a Maria Elizabeth TRAUB. They came from Hessen-Darmstadt in 1848 to Germantown, Washington Co.,WI and moved to Lomira, Dodge Co.,WI. Then after Maria's death, Ludwig moved to LaPorte City, Blackhawk Co. IA The reason I mention this is Germantown is very close to Milwaukee and family letters mention others from the area traveling there. Maria was born 2 Oct 1811. I have often wondered if any of her family came over with her or not. 1. Re: [GERMANS-WI] BOLD, ECKEL, ZIRBES

    3. Neal, Thanks for the response. IF!!! we are talking about one Philip (variant spellings: German "Philipp") Eckel, born 15. 09. 1824 at Bechhofen, Rheinbayern (now Homburg, Saarland), he was son of Jakob Eckel, born c. 1799 Bechhofen? (son of Michael Eckel & Eva nee Fink); died after 1860 (not at Belgium town?), married 20. 04. 1826 Bechhofen to Catharina Menzner, daughter of Philipp Menzner, musician, died 16. 2. 1818 Mittelberg & Margaretha Wollenweber, died 27. 04. 1814 also at Mittelberg. Other Eckel children should be at Belgium: Theresia Maria Elisabetha born 15. 05. 1827 Bechhofen and Johann George Eckel, born 01. 05. 1831 also at Bechhofen. The father, Jakob Eckel is named "Jakob Eckel II" at births of Theresia and Johann Georg (may be "Rufname" George in later life). Jakob Eckel (perhaps the "first"), Ackersmann (farmer) at Bechhofen, was 32 years old in 1823, married to Elisabetha Clemann (30 years old in 1823), parents of one Johannes Eckel, born 16. 06. 1823 in Bechhofen. Jacob Eckel and wife Catharina are listed in US census for Ozaukee Co., WI 1860: page 93, No. 766, Family No. 656, enumeration date 30. 06. 1860 in the town of Belgium. Jacob "Ekel" age 61 years, male, white, farmer, native of "Bavaria", real-estate value (land $1,500, personal property $300); Catharina "Ekel" , age 63 years, female, white, native of Bavaria. The family were neighbors to Philipp Bold (1800-1881) married to Theresia Eckel! This Philipp is my second great-grandfather. I believe Jakob Eckel (wife Catharina) in Belgium WI was brother to this Theresia Eckel Bold. Philipp Bold and wife Theresia Eckel settled in Belgium in 1846. I don't know (but would like to find out) which family came first, or did they perhaps travel together? What were other circumstances of that immigration. Besides Jakob and Theresia there was also a Friedrich Eckel , born about 1788 in Bechhofen (another brother?) I could find no other Eckels in the area. I have no information on the descent of Philipp Eckel born 1824. Could he indeed be the Eckel you looked for in Washington Co.? (Ozaukee was part of that county at the time). Do the pieces fit? I would be anxious for any additional information. The Eckel records I mention are from the Standesamt at Homburg, Saarland. They can be accessed through the Mormon library (I did my feeble research years ago before any of that was available!). I, too, have looked for years for Eckel descent and a connection in WI. I would be delighted if this pans out! I believe the Eckels must have left the Belgium area after the 1860s. Let me know. Joe in Oakland CA ----- Original Message ----- From: "Neal W.
