    3. I'm looking for information on my Kraemer family. The doors just opened a little wider for me and I'm hoping there are some other Kraemer's out there doing research on their family as well. My Grandma is the last of the Kraemer's along her line (we follow down through the Michael Kraemer line below). We were at a standstill with Jakob Kraemer in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin until we received some census information about the other children that they had. We do not know when they came to the U.S. from Germany, but we think it may have been around the late 1840's. We believe that they made a stop in Cincinnati, Ohio (due to census records) before moving on to Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. We do not know where they came from in Germany. Please let me know if you have links to my family. Father: Jakob Kraemer (or Kremer) born: Abt. 1808 died: 10/17/1892 Mother: Anna Maria (Peters) Kraemer born: Abt. 1820 died: 08/11/1891 Son: Michael Kraemer born: 01/12/1846 died: 02/25/1908 married: Gertrud Gross on 04/08/1866 in Mt. I look forward to making a Kraemer (Kremer) family connection! Pam pammix@attbi.com

    1. [GERMANS-WI] Siebert or Seibert researchers?
    2. Baby Blues
    3. Wanted: Any information, pictures (Especially pictures, since I have none of this man) of a John Siebert (Sometimes spelled Seibert, depending on which document you're looking at) and his time in the Milwaukee Wisconsin area. This is what I have on him so far via Civil War pension papers, newspaper articles about his wife, and marriage records: John Siebert ----------------- Born July 15, 1840 and died approximately anywhere from February 10th-15th, 1907 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin Joined the Civil War PA Infantry (Why PA? My guess is that maybe he was originally from PA) in B Company 31st Regimen of the Pennsylvania Infantry and then his pension papers also state that he was in the 82nd PA Infantry. After his stunt in PA, he apparently met a Celia Gambur (Yambur--I've seen it pronounced 3 ways now) in Milwaukee, where she grew up. Then they went down to Springfield, IL. and married on June 15, 1865. They spent a few years there, then tried their luck in Chicago, IL. Unfortunately, as John was an alcoholic, Celia kicked him out either in Chicago or Springfield. Neither divorced, but Celia stayed in Springfield, IL. and John moved to Milwaukee where he originally met Celia, and spent the rest of his life there. I know his last residence was at 540 National Avenue and I know that his original career was that of a carpenter. If anyone ever comes across any more information pertaining to this man, please let me know! My Great Great Grandpa's somewhat of a mystery. Brent

    1. [GERMANS-WI] GERHARDS/GERHART, ca 1842
    2. Jane T.
    3. Hello. I am new to this list, and I need lots of help!!! In 1842 Mathias GERHARDS or GERHARTZ (in Germany) or GERHART (US), b. 1800, emigrated from Ditscheid, Rhein-Pfalz, Prussia with his wife, Maria SCHMITT, b. 1810, and a son, Michel. There was another Maria with them and an Eva as well. I'm not sure how the latter two were related, but one may have been Michel's wife and the other Mathias' daughter. Mathias' and Maria's dau, Catherine, was not with the group on the passenger list, but she was only 2 y.o. then, so maybe ignored. I do not find any of these folks until I find a Mathias Gerhart in a 1869 Chicago, IL directory. I never again was able to find him. And I've never found Michel, either, let alone any of the women. I believe they may have gone to Fond-du-Lac as there are records showing that other family members went there at an earlier time. Related family names are Pitzen and Härig. 1. Does anyone know anything about any of these folks? 2. What suggestions do you have as to where I should search in order to find them...especially Mathias and his (2nd) wife, Maria. I've already done the obvious things like Google and Familysearch and censuses. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Jane in AZ

Please also keep in mind that a Message board post that is gatewayed to the list needs to be replied to on the board. Most board users are not list subscribers and will never see a reply to their post otherwise. Or you can use the address of that person which is in the message gateway and e-mail them privately. A reminder: We all generally just "reply" to whatever message is on the screen, since that is how we normally communicate on this List. However, it's important to realize that SOME of the messages are "gatewayed" to us from the corresponding surname Message Board. We receive the benefit of seeing messages posted about this surname, without needing to visit the web page. Some -- perhaps many -- of those who post messages there are NOT subscribers to this List. What we need to remember, then, is that if we want to be certain our message reaches the original poster, we must click on the link provided in the message that comes to the List. That will take us to the Message Board where the original message resides. At that point, we will be able to "reply" to the message, so that it "threads" itself into that series, and also it will be gatewayed to the List, thus coming back to us here. FORWARDED BY LIST ADMIN. >>Subj: {not a subscriber} Georg MLLER Date: 1/7/2003 12:32:28 PM Central Standard Time From: ahnenforschung@heininger.org To: GERMANS-WI-L@rootsweb.com Sent from the Internet (Details) Hello, I am a German member of the mailing list and have no experience in genealogical research outside of Germany. I am looking for the ggg-grandfather of my wife. His name is Georg MLLER, born 18.4.1830 in Ried, Bavaria, Germany. He was married with Maria SCHROTT, born 21.2.1830 in Hrbach, Bavaria. They had five children: Theresia, born 18.10.1860 Georg, born 4.4.1862 Elisabeth, born 8.7.1865 Anton, born 133.6.1867, died 2.7.1867 Johann Baptist, born 10.5.1869 Georg MLLER was the chief of a famous gang of robbers in Bavaria and was sentenced to prison, but in 1868 he escaped and fled to Wisconsin. There he wanted to begin a normal life. His wife and his children came later to Wisconsin. Perhaps Georg MLLER used the false name PTZINGER. In 2.12.1869 their child Johann Baptist died in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (we know this from a letter of Georg MLLER to his Priest in Bavaria). I want to find out, whether Georg MLLER really lived a normal life in the USA or became a criminal person again. Does anybody of the members of this mailing list have an idea, how I can continue my search in Wisconsin? -------------------------------------------------------------- With kind regards Gerhard Heininger Munich, Germany <mailto:ahnenforschung@heininger.org> ahnenforschung@heininger.org <http://www.heininger.org/> www.heininger.org<< Need a new email address that people can remember Check out the new EudoraMail at http://www.eudoramail.com

    1. [GERMANS-WI] Birth Records: County vs State
    2. Davideen
    3. Why do state records differ from those found in the individual counties. In 1980 I went to Friendship in Adams County, Wisconsin and photocopied a birth certificate that listed the town that my great grandfather came from in Prussia. Recently, I ordered the Adams county birth registry film from the FHC in order to decipher the name of the town. Much to my surprise, the record that I found on the film was completely different than the one I photocopied in 1980. That is to say that the record on the film did not list the name of the town or province but merely the country of mygrandfather. What should I make of this decrepancy? It would appear to me that the county records sometimes contain more information than the state records. If so, doesn't this makes state records inherently untrustworthy since you can't totally rely on the state records for a complete and full disclosure of the information given by the parents upon the birth of a child. 3. James, thank you for your response. I have searched for naturalization records for Johann and Joseph Birler but the Milwaukee Historical Society says it could not find any records. I have not found ship records and think that will be what I have to concentrate on now. Again, thanks for your suggestions.
