    3. Hi Ed, There very well could be a connection through Bertha, but i sure don't know what it is. Do you know anything about Bertha Schroeder? Did she have siblings? The only other thing I know about my g g grandmother, Marie Schroeder Witt is that she had a brother, Christian. His son was Walter Schroeder who built the Schroeder hotel. if you know more about Bertha Schroeder I'd like to hear about her. 2. Nicole Kreuziger
    3. Hello. I'm new to this list, and I was wondering if anyone out there is researching German ancestors from Switzerland to Wisconsin, I am particularly interested in those with ancestors immigrating to the Racine area. I would like to hear from anyone with German-Swiss ancestry in the Racine area that might have some tips to help me in my research, but I will also list the specific ancestors I'm researching below: Johann Martin SCHMID was born Bet. 1799 to 1809 in Oberehrendingen, Aargau, Switzerland, and died 25 October 1861 in Raymond, Racine, Wisconsin. (I can't confirm his exact birthdate due to discrepincies between sources.) He married Magdelene FREI in 1840 in Oberehrendingen, Aargau, Switzerland, daughter of Michael August FREI and Maria Anna MEIER. Magdelene FREI was born 03 November 1813 in Oberehrendingen, Aargau, Switzerland, and died 18 April 1893 in St. Louis Cemetery, Raymond, Racine, Wisconsin. Johann and Magdelene emigrated from Switzerland between 1851 and 1854 to a farm in Raymond, Racine County. They changed their name to SMITH and had at least the following children: Adeline (Smith) KEISER, Godard SMITH, Magdalene (Smith) HANSON, Adolph SMITH, Emma SMITH, and Epiphania Gertrude (Smith) MARSCH. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

    3. In the 1900 census for Milwaukee, I have found a Michael HOFFMAN, aged 52, married to an Angeline, also aged 52. They have a daughter named Mary, who is 5 years old, and they have been married for 6 years. Does anyone know who this Michael could possibly be? He says he came to the US in 1851; she says she came to the US in 1852. I'm wondering if this Angeline could possibly be the sister of Susan (FOX) HAUPERT of Hartford, WI (Susan died in 1913, and her obit lists a sister, Angeline HOFFMAN, of Milwaukee). Thanks! 2. Ed
    3. For a number of years I have been trying to follow through on an entry in one of the volumes of the reference series "Germans to America." It tells me that my ggrandfather Henry Otto Louis BRÖCKER/BROECKER, his brother Fred, and Fred's wife Bertha SCHROEDER arrived in New York City from Germany in1868. Their destination is identified as "Wisconsin." Otto H. Leonard BRÖCKER/BROECKER, the first child of Fred and Bertha, was born in 1868, eight days after their arrival in NYC. By 1875 or 1876 The family lived in Kankakee IL, where there is no further record of the child, so he may have been born in Wisconsin and may also have died there. This is all I know about the Wisconsin connection, since the family members remained in IL. I am hoping that someone may recognize my immigrant ancestors. Ed Broecker Suburban Chicago IL

After 1815, the Rhineland (where Trier and Hentern are) was ruled by Prussia and called the Rhineland Province of Prussia. Hentern bei Trier, is, as the name suggests, by Trier.
