    3. Depending on whether or when they Naturalized you can often find port of entry, date and ship on these papers. You do not need to know court or state etc to begin a search through the Department of Justice, Immigration & Naturalization Service. . I have submitted well over 30 requests and have been successful with about half of them. They send copies of the papers to you. No SASE required and it is free. Takes up to 6 months to get a reply but well worth it. I have been requesting what are called C-Files using a standard letter I have developed. If you are interested in this approach eMail me and I will give you details and send you a copy of my Form Letter and some hints. Below is a site that explains C-Files http://www.immigration.gov/graphics/aboutus/history/NatzRec/NATREC.htm D ----- Original Message ----- From: "Judith Schweitzer" <junan37@hotmail.com> To: <GERMANS-WI-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, August 06, 2003 6:29 PM Subject: [GERMANS-WI] Immigration Ports? | What would be the most common ports of entry that the Germans came through | for me to be able to start searching the records. 3. A lot of ships sailing from Bremen, Germany came to Baltimore, MD, but Galveston TX was also a popular port, and some even came via Canada. Try looking at the immigrant ship transcribers guild website and you can look specifically at boats originating from Germany, then separated by date, which will should give you a better idea. You can also submit queries to them. I don't remember their website address off hand but you can do a search for it. 3. I'm researching the JAKOB STADLER family, which settled in Wausau, Marathon Co., WI around 1882. At this point the family and its descendants is quite well-documented "post-immigration", and now I've found the link to their origins in Germany in the "Baden, Germany Emigration Index, 1866-1911". This index says that the Stadler's came from the town of BINAU, district of MOSBACH, in the province of BADEN. Does anyone know where vital records are available for this location in Germany? Jakob STADLER married Margaret RUECK in Germany around 1859. I believe Jakob's parents were Peter and Barbara STADLER. 1. [GERMANS-WI] KREUTZ in Southern Wisconsin
    2. John Thacher
    3. Hello: I am looking for information about my great grandfather and great grandmother, their parents, and any descendants. I have the following information. Great Grandfather: Carl KREUTZ listed his last residence as Martinshagen (Kreis Schlawe, Pommern, Germany) on the ships passenger list. He was born Feb. 15, 1839, died June 12, 1921. His father was Gustaf Kreutz. Carl first married a REIBE in about 1860 and had three children: This wife died in 1872-3 in Pommern. Anna Mary (SAGGERT), Caroline (GABBERT), and Mathilda (SIEMIENIEWSKI) Great Grandmother: Caroline (Last name listed in various documents as: WRANG, GEIST, GEISZNER, and STRANGE) was born in 1844, died about 1893-5. My Great Grandmother was Carls second wife. They were married in 1873 and came to the USA on the ship Braunschweig landing in Baltimore, MD November 30, 1892. Carl and Caroline had six children all born in Pommern: Karl, Martha (SCHWABE), Bertha (LUETH), August, my grandmother Hedwige (NESSLAR), and Henry. They first settled in Harvard, Illinois and later lived in Lake Geneva, Shull Lake, Zenda, and Kenosha, Wisconsin. Carl, Caroline, Henry, Martha, and Bertha are buried in Walworth Center Cemetery in Walworth, Wisconsin. I have located records for Martinshagen but only for 1874 - 1881. Information, guidance, and connections welcome. John Thacher --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! SiteBuilder - Free, easy-to-use web site design software
