Someone recently wrote a message about the church records for the towns of Dhron and Neumagen. These records are available online and can be downloaded as zip files from home.t-online.de/home/KJ_Tonner/ Karl Josef Tonner has put a number of church books from the Eifel region online, including Kelberg, Retterath, Ulmen, Uess, Boos, Hetzerath, Virneburg. There is also a list of emigrants from the Eifel to the U.S.--mainly to Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin. You can check for the place names in the index at Karl's homepage above. Happy Hunting. Virginia

Dear Members, Does anyone know of a family in Milwaukee by the name of Wolfmeyer. My great grandmother's sister, Susan Heiser, married a Mr. Wolfmeyer and they lived in Milwaukee during the 1920s and 30s I believe. I believe that they only had one child, a son. I don't know his name nor, do I know Mr. Wolfmeyer's first name. Thank you, Carol Pattison (researching Hansche, Hilker, and Piper families of Racine)
I have some undocumented information in my files that looks like this: Peter Joseph Komp (Jan 8, 1808 - Mar 14, 1878) married Feb 3, 1835 to Maria Katharina Trester ( Mar 18, 1808 - Aug 8, 1879). Their son, Johann H. Komp (May 17, 1840 in "Treis", Rhineland, Germany - Nov 30, 1880 in Washington Co, WI) married Pauline Dietzler born 1848 in Milwaukee. Their son, Henry H. Komp (Apr 20, 1873 in Richfield, Washington Co. WI - Mar 6, 1949 in Hartford, Washington Co WI) married Nov 27, 1894 in Hartford to Josephine Jansen (1874, Wisconsin - 1967, Hartford, WI). Their son Theodore H. Komp (Nov 6, 1898 in Hartford WI - May 14, 1982, Hartford) married at St. Kilian Catholic in Hartford to Rose Marie Herbies (1900 - Jan 16, 1984). Their son Robert Komp married Valeria Gundrum, daughter of Joseph Theodore Gundrum and Elizabeth Rohlinger. It's the Gundrum family that is one of my lines. I don't think I can source the Komp information further, but hope you can make some use of it. Karen Schrade kschrade@concentric.net was looking for LANGE information. Even though my LANGE connections are very small, while I was in Reedsburg, WI area in 1996, I ran into a very knowledge person with volumes of data. Her name and address is: Donna Lange, 208 E. Broadway, Rock Springs, WI 53961 Bud & Dee Runge runmd@juno.com
The last info I received from a city directory was 1898 (via the City Directories mailing list) and showed them living on Clinton Street. I've tried one site that lets you input addresses/cross streets to find the ED but I keep coming up a block or two off from the last known address (Greenfield Avenue). >> > Have been able to find most of these people in the Federal Census' up > until 1920. Have no idea where to start looking as to enumeration > district. > ... Last > known address 317 Greenfield Ave (1910). Have you checked the city directory? You'd be able to tell when they left that address. *Someplace* there is information on how to find an enumeration district. But can't tell you where. Perhaps a librarian could help? (Especially a librarian who works with the genealogy collections.) Perhaps you'd need to check with Milwaukee as to what ward the address belongs (if it didn't show on the census). I really haven't dealt with censuses in urban areas as yet. Hi all, Is anyone researching a Lange family from the Fond du Lac area? We have an old letter from my husband's great-aunt saying, "we moved to wisconsin when i was about 5 years old (which would be c. 1885). Mama's parents and her 5 brothers had already moved to Fond du Lac and Mama was lonesome for them." the 'mama' here was Marie Lange Radloff. She was (we think) born in Essen and married Gustave Radloff. They emigrated from Stettin to the Fond du Lac area. Marie died from complications of childbirth in March, 1889. Thanks, Karen kschrade@concentric.net
Did you know that most orphan trains to Wisconsin were organized by the Catholic Church? There was a member of the WI legislature who was adamantly opposed to orphan trains, feeling that "riff-raff" from New York City would be dumped in WI and eventually become welfare cases. Catholic ones were allowed because the structure to check up on the children was already in place. The priests pretty well assigned people to accept children, and in some cases took orphans themselves.
I am happy to announce a new list at Rootsweb. The ORPHAN-TRAINS Discussion List is for the discussion of the ORPHAN TRAINS that carried thousands of children to new homes in any and all states and anything pertaining to them covering the time periods of 1850's to 1930. Discussions pertaining to anything related to these children, circumstances, finding their families, history of these trains, etc. are encouraged. To join ORPHAN-TRAINS-L, send mail to ORPHAN-TRAINS-L-request@rootsweb.com with the single word subscribe in the message subject and body. It is not necessary to subscribe in both modes. To join ORPHAN-TRAINS-D, do the same thing with ORPHAN-TRAINS-D-request@rootsweb.com There is an ORPHAN-TRAINS List home page where you can review the list rules and guidelines and find links to related sites. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~irishrose/orphan-trains-l.htm Kathie, List Admin.
