Hi Carol , How often did the City Directories come out ? . Do you recall if there were any for 1863/ 64 or 65 ? . I am having the same problem, found my Henry ROAK / ROKE in St Louis Census 1860 . Don't know exactly when they came there . Census say 1857 family came to US . Can't find them on any ship . Think they docked in Louisiana , but no proof . Found them in Grundy Co, Morris ILL census 1870 " ROKE ". From then on name was ROAK . Does your Library have much info on immigrants who lived in St Louis at that time ? .
