Hi David: Only name of the four given was this - "Annie" - which, if she was from Germany would be doubtful. From the dates given, sounds like they may have been some of the many who came thru New Orleans for the Midwest. In the 50s, three of four German immigrants came through St. Louis. They may have gone west or to farms in Illinois, Iowa or continued north to Minnesota, North Dakota, etc. although they probably would have come thru NY if that was their original destination. There were two Jacobs that fought in Civil War from NY and one from Ohio - Cincinnati was a large German town. Of the 58 Kahl's that show as Civil War soldiers, there are none shown from Missouri but several (6-7) from Illinois. There were anumber of Kahls in PA but these arrived in the 1760-90 period - the first large German emigration. A Jacob Kahl of Ft. Atkinson attended the Mondern Workman convention in Osshkosh, WI in1890 The second list is of all Kahls listed in the 1889-90 Directory. The third is of a William H. 1890 land purchase in Louisiana. A stretch but it wasn't uncommon for some to return to New Orleans if there was family there. The 4th is of the two Jacob Kahl's listed in the 1860 census. These are the only two showing birth in Germany. #5 is from the 1880 census and are the only two old enough to have traveled from Germany with a wife in 1850.
