    3. Hi, Gary - Not a thing - Here's the whole entry as it appears in the index that's at the St Louis Public Library. "This certifys that I joined together in the holy matrimony Mr John Friedrich Soelder & Louisa Hugon St. Louis, 24th August 1855. Chas Hollmann, Min. of the Gospel" I'm back to working on the particular brick wall of identifying my gggrandmother's family. This record shows yet another variant of the spelling of her maiden name. (Notice the spelling of Solter) I'm hoping I might make a St. Louis church connection.Identifying Chas. Hollmann is a shot-in-the-dark maneuver. 3. Phyliss: All I've been able to find is Volume 7, pg 398 in the City marriage records. There were some Hugons in Crawford County (Osage). Both names look to be French & possibly from 1700s Canada. But, back to the search. These first two look to be candidates- St. Louis City Death Records, 1850-1908 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Name Death Date Birth Place Cemetery Address Charles Hollmann 23 May 1886 Poor House Chas Hollmann 11 Sep 1867 Usa Wesleyan 809 N 8th St Chas Hy Hollmann 16 May 1869 1829 S 10th Source Information: St. Louis Genealogical Society, comp. St. Louis, MO: St. Louis Genealogical Society, 1999. --------------------------------------------- Here's a thin one. There's a Charles C., 15 yrs. son of Henry C. & Kate of both males are listed as bricklayers in the 1880 census. They are from Washington, Mo. not far from StL. Henry & Kate were born in Germany. Charles is their eldest and was born in Mo so they've been there since at least 1865. Nephew? This might be your boy! 1880 United States Federal Census ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Name: Charles HOLLMANN Age: 58 Estimated birth year: <1822> Birthplace: LIPPE DETMOLD Occupation: Minister Of Gospel Relation: Self Home in 1880: Pepperton, Stevens, Minnesota Marital status: Married Race: White Gender: Male Head of household: Charles HOLLMANN Father's birthplace: DETMOLD Mother's birthplace: DETMOLD Cannot read/write: Blind: Deaf and dumb: Otherwise disabled: Idiotic or insane: Image Source: Year: 1880; Census Place: Pepperton, Stevens, Minnesota; Roll: T9_635; Family History Film: 1254635; Page: 183D; Enumeration District: 19; Image: 0372. -------------------------------------------------------------- My wife has one of these "traveling" ministers from the same Washington area. Never seemed to have much money and frequently moved. Some weren't associated with any church but performed ceremony at just about any ol' place. Of course, I'm not sure he's one of them but is quite possibly the brother of Henry. I'd look into the one that died in the poorhouse in 1886. ------------------------------------------ And then, there's this one: St. Louis, Missouri Directories, 1889-1890 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: John F. 1. Re: [Germans-STL] HOLLMANN - Identification of a minister - Hugen-Hugon??
    2. Phyllis Solter
    3. Gary - Thanks so much for all your good time on my Hollmann question. Now - if there's anyone out there who can identify Marie Isabel Hugen (married, St Louis Oct 1852 to Fred Klaver who died May 1883)and Louisa Hugon (married St Louis to Frederick Solter August 1855 - died 1873) as sisters - that would be my prize of the year. (Marie Hugen Klaver married Frederick Solter, widower, in St Louis in 1884 - Frederick got on the train and came from Sedgwick County, Kansas to marry her) I am sure they're sisters. I just can't document it.!! Phyllis Solter
