Hi This is to urge everyone interested in genealogy and family history to support local, regional, state and national family-history organizations. Nowadays, we get much of our information and data from e-mail and other Internet facilities, but many of the on-line databases, etc., are created by volunteers in those organizations. Already this year, two important family-history organizations in Missouri have become defunct: The Heart of America group and the American Family Records Association. Hi Bob, I have good copies of the ship's lists that we discussed earlier. The printer at the St. Louis Public Library makes 11 x 17 copies. I can't scan anything that big. I could take them to a copy place and have copies made to send you by snail mail. What do you suggest? Since you e-mailed me, I have found another family member who came at an earlier date. As you may recall, I had found Wilhelm Meng and his family coming from Havre on the ship, Asia, in 1848 to New Orleans. Since then, I have found Conrad Meng and his family coming from Havre to New York on the Manchester in 1837. While I do not have proof that Conrad is Wilhelm's father, it seems logical because Wilhelm's son and wife lived with Conrad's wife, Elizabetha, after Wilhelm's death per census records. Elizabetha would have been about the right age to be the grandmother. Finding the 1837 ship's list was quite a challenge because they came before GTA listings. I just kept narrowing it down based on records showing German birthdates and records in this country.
