Same as Hooverville? $1 an hour was big bucks - I worked part time at Woolworth's after school for 55¢ an hour and was ecstatic at my first paycheck, about $2.50 for the week. I proudly showed it to my father, 2 weeks before he died. Better than 25¢ an hour babysitting, or 10¢ a quart for those dewberries I had to pick and sell on Manchester Lane.
