    3. Hi Maureen, Not sure how long you have been gone from the area, but after Oliver Parks (founder of Parks Air College) passed away, the college became the property of St. Louis University. It was given to SLU along with an endowment to keep it in operation. It became Parks College of St. Louis University. Its emphasis was still on aeronautics and related disciplines. They used the old airport over near the High School (now known as BiState Parks Downtown St. Louis Airport) for flying and meterology lessons. They built a great auditorium on part of the field they used to use for student flying and added a couple of dorms for the guys. About mid term 1997, the Catholic Archdiosese and SLU announced their intentions of closing down the campus the following year saying the tuition collected just did not pay for keeping the facility open. My son in law was a student there at the time. The following year, he and his fellow students had to attend classes on the main campus in St. Louis, driving over to the above airport for classes relating the flying and (in his case) meterology. His class, the Class of 1998, was the final graduating class. The campus was put up for sale. All the buildings are still there. The grounds and buidlings are being maintained and security is present at all times. There have been a number of plans for using this facility (including purchase by Lindenwood College) but they have all been rejected because the Archdiosese will not come down on or even negotiate its asking price. He was miffed it wasn't him. Maureen ==== GERMANS-STLOUIS Mailing List ==== RootsWeb's mailing lists are filtered and attachments are removed.
