    1. Old Cathedral records
    2. I looked at the Earl Fischer data base but failed to see anything to do with any Old Cathedral records. There was only one female Brinker listed and according to some new family connections a number of events took place there. Thanks for trying to help but is there something else we need to know or do to get the information for the Old Cathedral? Janice Connell El Paso

    2. I saw the earl fischer database but I fail to see the old cathedral records. Do you mean that all of the records on the earl fischer database are from the old cathedral records? If there is a separate database with just old cathedral records I would appreciate a link. Thank you so very much for sharing your knowledge with us. Mary Ann in Kansas

    1. Old Cathedral Records
    2. Janice, Use a Google search to find Earl Fischer Database of St. Louis - Pico Search. I found my HOLLOCHER family there on the Old Cathedral site. The records are from at least 1818. Many of the records show the parents of those being married or baptized. The site helped me a whole lot with my research. If you want to contact me personally, I can insert a hyperlink so all you need to do is click on the blue to reach the site. Audrey

    2. Hi Fellow Researchers: I found out recently that the Brinker line I am researching had some baptisms and marriages in the Old Cathedral in the 1840s and 1850s. How would I go about getting copies or verification of these events from the Old Cathedral? Thanking you all in advance for your help. Sincerely, Janice Connell El Paso, TX

    2. Sandra Kieffer
    3. Hi, I mailed a letter back in April of 2000 and received a reply in approximately 2 weeks from a wonderful person named Amy. She returned a form letter along with a request form containing instructions in order for me to obtain information about my ancestor, who had been institutionalized at the St. Louis City Hospital on Arsenal Street. This is the address you need to write to when you request records: ST LOUIS PSYCHIATRIC REHABILITATION CENTER 5300 ARSENAL STREET, ST LOUIS MISSOURI 63139 You will need a copy of your birth certificate, the patient's birth or death certificate, and at least a ballpark figure for treatment dates. This information will allow them to send you documentation pertaining to the individual you have inquired about. If you want the actual treatment records for the patient, you will need a court order. - Sandra in Oregon

    3. Hi Gary, I put the question out about Lena Wieland. Lena was living in St. Louis at the time she was committed. Where in St. Louis should I look for the court order? Great idea, Gary. Thank you for your insight. Hopefully she was a citizen of Farmington - not StL - try looking in the St. Francois County Probate records (Farmington is the County seat, I believe) as there would have been a hearing. There should be quite a bit of information available in this file and will give you a starting point - much easier than trying to work backwards. 3. Hi Bob, I have good copies of the ship's lists that we discussed earlier. The printer at the St. Louis Public Library makes 11 x 17 copies. I can't scan anything that big. I could take them to a copy place and have copies made to send you by snail mail. What do you suggest? Since you e-mailed me, I have found another family member who came at an earlier date. As you may recall, I had found Wilhelm Meng and his family coming from Havre on the ship, Asia, in 1848 to New Orleans. Since then, I have found Conrad Meng and his family coming from Havre to New York on the Manchester in 1837. While I do not have proof that Conrad is Wilhelm's father, it seems logical because Wilhelm's son and wife lived with Conrad's wife, Elizabetha, after Wilhelm's death per census records. Elizabetha would have been about the right age to be the grandmother. Finding the 1837 ship's list was quite a challenge because they came before GTA listings. I just kept narrowing it down based on records showing German birthdates and records in this country. Nowadays, we get much of our information and data from e-mail and other Internet facilities, but many of the on-line databases, etc., are created by volunteers in those organizations. Already this year, two important family-history organizations in Missouri have become defunct: The Heart of America group and the American Family Records Association.
