    1. [Germans-STL] Need Help Finding ST. CHARLES NEWSPAPER & Ebenezer burial- please
    2. I have recently found 2 articles - obits - for my g grandfather, Henry Buechsenschuetz which were in the "ST. CHARLES COSMOS MONITOR WEEKLY NEWSPAPER" on Jan 15, 1896 and Jan 22, 1896. I would love to find a source for this newspaper (and any other newspapers operating in the area at that time) as I would love to read the newspapers for the whole year from front to back. Does anyone know where I might find this? I live in Colorado but I do have family in Illinois if the only source is in the St. Charles area. Also, one of the obits say that he was buried in Ebenezer burial ground and that the services were conducted by Brother Joah Watkins. Could someone tell me where Ebenezer burial ground is and how would I find out what Church Joah Watkins was from? The information I am most seeking is the birth date of Heinrich and his parents names. I would also like to find out the name of the funeral home that was used for his services. Any help is appreciated. Marian

    3. Have you contacted your local library for interlibrary loan to see if the newspapers are available that way. This is an often overlooked source. Given that the Bible was originally printed by a German, I guess if my wife had not ancestors from there I might have been asking the same question. Bob Emnett

    2. SRehm24416@aol.com: Thank you for the Little Sisters of the Poor information. Laurel Treat--your story about the lampost was funny. I bet that brought some chuckles! Ida Ebert, I see you are from Troy, MO. Do you know the Alexandria Cemetery there? I have two or more ancestors who I believe were buried there, but wish to verify that and get the information as to lot, grave number and possibly get pictures of any grave stones. The names are Theodore (Ted) Winge (1894-1988) and his wife, Hilda (1901-71) and his third wife Sarah Ellen (1909-92). Ted's parents were German and lived in St. Louis as did Ted himself for a while. I live in Michigan. Erven Thoma (Reply through the list or write me at ThomaET@aol.com if not using the Rootsweb server)

    3. Family Story my Mom tells, (she was born 1920, North St. Louis, Short street, grew up in Walnut Park, her grandparents were German immmigrants) Anyway, her father, Charlie Eckhardt, during the 1920's was driving an early model car past the Little Sisters of the Poor and the steering wheel broke off the car causing him to crash into a light post of some kind there. He was required to buy a new light post and thereafter whenever the family drove that way he pointed out "his" light post to his children. David Quinn of 619 Harrison avenue was crushed to death at noon Saturday under a falling pulley in a c- -ling car at the B. Matthis & Co. Fertilizing Works at North Broadway, where he was employed. Quinn was storing goods by the pulley apparently when the rope which it was held in position snapped. In falling, the pulley struck Quinn directly on the head, crushing the scull. in a few minutes. His body was to the morgue to await orders of - - - - - - - - esd 29 years old and married. ___________________________________________________________________________ 30 April 1900 David Quinn, 28, 5310 N. 2d; accident (Burial Permit) ____________________________________________________________________________ Burial Calvary Cemetery. _____________________________________________________________________________ Hi List Members We were hoping that soemone out there might have some insight into the identity of this David Quinn. If he is ours, he married Anna Catherine Kinstler/Kuenstler/Kuentle, about 1896. There were 2 sons, but we are not certain at this point that both were Anna Catherine's as on the 1900 census it indicates that she is widowed and the mother of one child, and one living. The boys were David F. Quinn b April 1898, and John J. b Nov 1899. We also were curious to know the location of 619 Harrison ave. in St. Louis. Thanks in advance for any help. Ida Ebert Troy, MO

    2. Greetings Mary [1]    Go to Google and enter NARA and click search. [2]    Opens to Home page. [2A]    For military records:  In upper-left hand corner is a pull-down menu scrolled down to  eVet,Recs and release. I got a big bundle of free photocopies from them on my brother. It takes about 10-12 weeks [2B]   For regional facilities where they have Ancestry, Hertiage Quest   In upper-left hand corner is a pull-down menu scrolled down to Location and release. Opens to Facilities and Map.  Click on dot in you area. NOTE:    eVet,Recs, genealogy, Ancestry and Heritage Quest are not at Presidential Libraries or affilated speciallized archives, Select the largest city in each region of the map. Also check-out in the pull-down menu for geneaology. You may want to check-out Ancestry.com for free research forms including Census   ones and get an idea of the scope of their databases. The majority are indexed, a real time saver as compared to NARA. Enjoy and good luck Frederick Falkenberg 1 Charset

    3. Hi all, There is something maybe some would find useful. I had a copy of my ancestor, Jacob Cornelius's marriage record, hand written, from St. Mary's that I obtained from his Civil War Pension file. It was handwritten in 1900 from St. Mary's. I also what I thought was a copy of the original obtained by a relative directly from the church in the 1960s. I thought that was that. On a whim, I recently checked the St. Louis Archdiocese records on microfilm at the St. Louis County Library. Turns out, what I thought was all the information was not. Although the first record was handwritten, it was not a complete copy. The actual entry had both the bride and grooms parents INCLUDING both mother's maiden names, valuable names that were not in the first copy. It never hurts to check ALL the sources. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bob Doerr" <bdoerr@rollanet.org> To: <GERMANS-STLOUIS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, December 29, 2003 3:20 PM Subject: [Germans-STL] Problem - old Catholic records in St. Louis > Hi > > About a dozen years ago, before the St. Louis Archdiocese had permitted the > Mormons to microfilm all of the pre-1920 sacramental records of the > parishes, I visited Ss.
