I was at the library today in St. Louis and checked the marriage records. I found a Wilhelm Beitz and Catherine Hozak ( it looked like ). No year given, but the volume is 10 and the page number is 499. This is the web address to order a copy of the marriage license............ http://genealogyinstlouis.accessgenealogy.com/recorder.htm#marr No other information was on the microfilm. I found a William WEITZ in the 1909 St. Louis City Directory: Weitz William trav 607, 421 Olive r. 2618 Park av. The 1910 directory was not available to me, and he was not found in the 1911 directory. I don't know what "trav 607" means, occupation I would guess and located at 421 Olive. Hello, I found your Wm Weitz when I was in 1910 city directories today looking for my Weiland/Wieland families. Here are the two entries for a William Weitz: Weitz, William, trav (traveling salesman) residence 2618 Park Avenue Weitz, William, vice-pres Western Cloth Glove Co. 3113 S. Broadway residence Hutchinson, Kansas If you would like this page in order to connect with other Weitz family members, I'd be glad to snail mail it to you. This is just a way to pay back some of the many genealogical kindnesses that have come my way. Hope this helps. The State Historical Society of Missouri (SHS) is at 1020 Lowry, Columbia. The main collection is what is probably the finest newspaper collection (mainly on microfilm) in the Nation. It is an open-stack facility. The every-name index to books is magnificent, but I do not believe it is being expanded to cover post-WW II books. Funding has become a major problem there. The Western Historical Manuscript Collection (WHMC) is related to SHS. Some years ago, most original documents and manuscripts were transferred to WHMC. WHMC has branches in Columbia, St. Louis, Rolla and Kansas City. One can have materials inter-facility loaned, so one can review records at the most convenient location. The Missouri Historical Society (MHS) is at 225 S. Skinker, St. Louis. It is a closed-stack facility, so the user depends on the catalogs. Many original manuscripts are there. They do not have a serious funding problem. The building alone, a former Hebrew temple, is worth a visit. Same for the St. Louis Public Library building. SHS and MHS are unrelated; both are great. I mostly use WHMC at Rolla and MHS. I am trying to find William Weitz, born 1874, and married in 1905 to Helena Gaul, in the 1910 census. By 1913, he was living in Hutchinson, KS, where their second child was born. I cannot find him in either St. Louis, MO, where he was born and lived until he moved for a few years to Hutchinson, KS, and shortly after 1913 to Kansas City, Jackson Co, MO. I have tried as many variations on the spelling of Weitz as I can think of and still cannot find him in 1910 in the census. Would anyone have any ideas, or access to a St. Louis telephone directory for a year around 1910? Thank you for any help. Frances
Bob Doerr and others, I do not have the authority to give these Roosters to any individual or repository. They are historical documents of the lodge and as such will be stored in our archives or in the Grand Lodge Museum in Columbia Missouri. I made the offer to scan the photos for individuals who might prove that they are their ancestors. I spent quite a bit of time just gathering the information on these persons. The data that I just posted along with scanned copies of the photos may be posted to the web in the near future. This is the balance of the listings for these individuals. There are photos associated with these persons and only these persons. These are all the Roosters I have found and as I mentioned in my first posting there are 900 plus individuals in these Roosters for each year. Please do not ask me to go on a fishing expedition, (I will not respond to fishing expeditions). Erven, The individual lodges create their own roosters and membership lists. The photos are usually those for the officers of the lodge on any given year. These roosters that I have were apparently printed every year. When I was Master of St. Louis Missouri Lodge #1 I produced a book with my schedule of events and the membership rooster. My brother did the same thing but added some of the history of our lodge. You will need to know which Lodge the individual belonged to or failing that were did they live. I might be able to help you or at least get you started down a path. Bill Are there Masonic membership lists and pictures from other years? Did the Masons publish directories regularly or just occasionally? Several of my ancestors were in the Masons and Eastern Star. An Otto Thoma (d. 1930) was a 32nd degree Mason. My aunt and mother were in Eastern Star in the first half of the 20th century. My grandfather, Erven Thake was a Mason; also Winfield Thake, I believe. Winfield Thake was also in the Turnverein, and directed the chorus for them. Bill, I hope you are planning for those rosters eventually to go to Missouri Historical Society. Sometimes it is not easy to decide whether to send old materials to Western Historical Manuscript Collection, to State Historical Society or to Missouri Historical Society, but this one is easy. Why are you having so much trouble finding where your ancestors lived? Note in the following list how often these men were moving between the years of 1907 and 1925. There were some 900 members of this lodge, can you imagine the job of keeping the mailing lists up to date? While cleaning out some old lodge records I uncovered these membership rosters with photos. These are some rather old St. Louis, Missouri Masonic Lodge Rosters. If any interest in these contact me. Please supply some sort of proof that these men may be related to your family. All these men were most probably born sometime between 1860 and 1900 since a man must be 21 years to join a Masonic Lodge. I will post these in one page increments to keep each posting relatively small. These men were all members of Missouri Lodge #1, which through lodge consolidations is now St. Louis Missouri Lodge #1, A.F & A.M. ATKINS, WILLIAM E. Are there Masonic membership lists and pictures from other years? Did the Masons publish directories regularly or just occasionally? Several of my ancestors were in the Masons and Eastern Star. An Otto Thoma (d. 1930) was a 32nd degree Mason. My aunt and mother were in Eastern Star in the first half of the 20th century. My grandfather, Erven Thake was a Mason; also Winfield Thake, I believe. Winfield Thake was also in the Turnverein, and directed the chorus for them. Erven Thoma ThomaET@aol.com http://thoma.ws
