Elmer Graff, 81, Bismarck, died Dec. 7, 2003, at his home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck. Elmer was born March 14, 1922 in Logan County, the son of Rudolf and Dorothy (Schnabel) Graff. He grew up on the family farm and attended school near Burnstad. He married Shirley Boschee on July 23, 1950 in Wishek. They farmed the first year east of Napoleon with Elmer's parents, and then moved to Wishek and later to Bismarck. Elmer worked on the construction of the refinery in Mandan. He then began a 33-year career as a guard with the North Dakota State Penitentiary, retiring in 1987. Elmer is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Doug Dworshak, Bismarck; his sons, Brent Graff and Blake Graff, both of Bismarck; two grandchildren; one great grandchild; a sister-in-law, Eileen Graff, Bismarck. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, who died May 29, 2003; his parents; one sister, Rachel, and two brother, Ted and Adam. Napoleon Homestead December 10, 2003 < per Lori Doerr >
