    3. The Fence Post Windsor, Colorado searching past obits: Donald J. “Don” Befus Donald J. “Don” Befus, 72, of Berthoud, Colo., died Nov. 14, 2001, at his home. He was born Nov. 7, 1929, in Longmont, Colo., to Jake and Pauline (Hohnstein) Befus. Don married Darlene Lee on Nov. 27, 1955, in Frederick, Colo. She died in 1992. He served in the U.S. Marines in the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1953. He earned a Service Defense medal and the United Nations Service medal while serving his country. Don was a farmer, having worked the land for 39 years. He enjoyed going to the local coffee shop to visit with friends. He was a dedicated father. He was always willing to help his neighbors, and will be missed by many people. He was a member of the Christ Congregational Church in Longmont. Don is survived by his daughters, Cindy of Berthoud and Karen of Loveland, Colo.; a sister, Virginia and husband Dale Adler of Arvada, Colo.; and a sister-in-law, Donna Befus of Longmont. He is also survived by one aunt, Marie Beeler of Westminster, Colo.; and one uncle, Pete Befus of Denver; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene; and his parents. Services were held on Nov. 20 in Longmont with interment at Foothills Gardens of Memory. Memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice of Larimer County in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont, Colo., 80501.
