    1. [GERmanRUSsian] SPADT and DANIEL families from Blumenfeld, Russia 1909
    2. Steve Mitchell
    3. Any idea of original surname origins of SPADT and DANIEL? Both are ancestral names of ours that were [possibly] part of German migration to the Volga, Russia region at Catherine the Great's invitation in the 1760's. Trying to determine both the name origins and geographical origins in Germany. Both families are Lutheran in their backgrounds. Our ancestors, George and Catherine Daniel SPADT arrived Galveston, TX September 17, 1909 from Blumenfeld, Russia and migrated to Russell, Kansas with 5 of their then-children [Anna Marie, Katie, Mary, Jacob, and John]. Also traveling with the SPADT's were Catherine DANIEL Spadt's brother, Martin DANIEL and his family, wife Louise, and children, Amalie and Louise. Supposed destination for both families was Carnegie, Oklahoma. But somehow, the SPADT's decided to go on to Russell, Kansas; apparently following other Lutheran immigrants. After settling in Russell, Lydia and Elsa SPADT were born. The family then removed to Montana c1914-1915. Have no idea what happened to the DANIEL's after arrival in Galveston. We have read through the information on the Lower Volga & Lower Jeruslan River websites, but with no leads. Also, cannot locate Blumenfeld [Blumenfeldt] on any maps....am seeking 1900 vintage maps for assistance. Any SPADT and DANIEL assistance would be most appreciated. Thank you.
