Hello Joanne, By a fluke , i came across another Neuenburg; this one in S.Russia... It's mentioned in a post by Tim Janzen. See: http://listsearches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ifetch2?/u1/textindices/M/MENNO-ROO TS+2001+116224902+F Subject: [MENNO] 1920 Chortitza Colony census and other items in the Zaporozhye Archive microfilms, where we see:... "The census is found on about 500 frames on the microfilm. While the frames are not numbered themselves, the pages in the file were numbered at one point. The page numbers are given in the right upper corner of every other frame. All the frames that I reviewed looked like they were readable, but portions of the pages seem to be somewhat faint. For those of you interested in reviewing this microfilm I offer the following preliminary summary of the file listing the page numbers as they appear in the original documents: ... " and then Page # Village Number of people in the village ... 209-217 Neuenburg 82 families (about 300) ... More interesting info in Tim's message! ;j. We find possibles in: Neuenburg [ G-2 ] and Schoendorf ( b. Bromberg ) [ G-2 ] or Schoenbeck [ O-4 ] ??? Unfortunately no immediate matches; i tried to find places in the same locale. Due to language confusion a name like "berg" could be "burg" and Schoneberg could be Schoenbeck... Also not that Stumpp himself mentions that the list is by no means complete.... He listed the bulk of the villages that provided settlers to S.Russia. Another thought is to have the region in Poland, for instance if the places are in POSEN, or POZNAN then we're out of luck here; those are mostly in the [ E-3 ] block... Hope this helps somewhat... ;j. ----- Original Message ----- From: "joanne hummel" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, September 20, 2001 11:23 AM Subject: [GERmanRUSsian] KEMNITZ > Hello, List-ers..... > I have begun searching for KEMNITZ. > Frederick August Kemnitz was born on > Nov. 3, 1826 in Neuenberg, Prussia, > which may have been a part of Poland > at the time.
