Elaine Hieb, 83, of Turlock and formerly of Lodi, died Oct. 16, in a Turlock convalescent home. She was born on July 16, 1918, in New England, N.D. Mrs. Hieb served in the U.S. Marine Corps at the Marine Headquarters in Washington, D.C., during World War II. She lived in Lodi for many years prior to moving to Turlock seven years ago. She edited two cookbooks and helped edit her late husband's book. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She enjoyed sewing. She is survived by her daughters, Candace Wilson of Turlock and Cynthia McFarland-Johnson of Napa; sisters, Bernice Buckley and Virginia Wilder both of Lodi, and Janet McDougell of St. Louis, Mo; and nine grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. Harley F. Hieb, U.S.A. Ret., in 1994; and brothers, Willis and Lyle Marr.
