J, You have stated: < our* ancestors did not speak plattdeutsch!, they spoke swabian. > Is this a quote from another message, are you serious or is this "tongue in cheek"? Curt.
Curt, perhaps U missed my footnote "* They were from close to Schtuagerd" < Schtuagerd being Stuttgart > ... I was speaking about "our" as in my family and relatives. So yes, the "our" as related to my relatives is correct... no tongue in check there... Even the ones who came back from Siberia and Kazakhstan still had a swabian dialect... I am presently also working on a revised list of pioneer settlers in Neuburg < from where many of "ours" hailed> and they are dominantly from Wuerttemberg... , which is certainly where Swabian is and was spoken. I hasten to add that < in my view > Platt or plattdeutsch is Low German which would be from the North and NorthWest of Germany.... Hope this helps.....; so now back to genealogy...; finding families and places...., ;j. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, November 09, 2001 6:02 PM Subject: Re: [GERmanRUSsian] Swabian anyone? > J, > You have stated: > < our* ancestors did not speak plattdeutsch!, they spoke swabian. > > Is this a quote from another message, are you serious or is this "tongue in > cheek"? > Curt.
