St.Petersburg was where the Lutheran Church had it's "headquarters" [HQ] for amongst others the Lutheran Churches in the S.Russia region < near the Black Sea >. It, the HQ, was called the Consistory. Local churches were expected to send copies of their churchbooks to their HQ..., which in retrospect was a great idea, or we would not have any records... as the local records were lost by and large. I'm not familiar with the set-up of the Roman Catholic Church in Russia, but i'm sure they must have had records as well. Whether they survived the Russian [ / Communist ] Revolution is something i don't know. Perhaps some of our subscribers with expertise in this area can help out here. Can U share the BLEILE references U have found? Perhaps that will trigger more discussion & help! ;j. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gary Nevard" <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, November 11, 2001 1:33 PM Subject: Re: Fw: [GERmanRUSsian] Kandel/Selz-Info Sought > JaY: > Thanks. I did some more searching , as i recalled an article by Gwen Pritzkau, and found: http://pixel.cs.vt.edu/library/gwen.html The article makes great reading on the background of the St.Pete Consistory and the records which are available there! It mentions Catholic records ( near the end, ) at the archives in SARATOV, but i suspect that's for the Volga Region only. Hopefully this will be useful to some... ;j. ----- Original Message ----- From: "÷j." <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, November 11, 2001 1:57 PM Subject: Re: Fw: [GERmanRUSsian] Kandel/Selz-Info Sought St.Petersburg was where the Lutheran Church had it's "headquarters" [HQ] for amongst others the Lutheran Churches in the S.Russia region < near the Black Sea >. Jay, I have been off line for several weeks due to illness, and so I am very intrigued by the discussion on the Lutheran records in St Petersburg. Do you have access to these records? Thanks, Suzanne ===== Someday you'll be an ancestor too! __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Find the one for you at Yahoo! Personals http://personals.yahoo.com
