Dear List Members: I hope someone has some information or guidance for me regarding my family genealogy research. Below I have noted literally all we know about these members of my family and things that are intriguing and could be relevant. I know very little, basically nothing, of the process to research my family in Russia and before that, in Germany. I live in Virginia and am not able to travel for research at this time. I hope to post this information on a few relevant lists/board in hope someone will have some guidance to give. Thank you all for your time in looking at this information. Sophie Bernard Virginia, USA Alexander RIGELHOF born: 14 July 1872 in Kustarevo (Neu-Kolonie/New-Colonie); Samara district; Seelman canton. d. July, 1936 Ont. Canada. He was a blacksmith by trade. Married Susanna OPEL who was a school teacher. Born 1871 or 1873, died in May 8, 1941 in Ontario. She may have had a sister ?Agnes? who was a nun in Saskatchewan. They had several children, 8 is the possible number. One daughter (perhaps more) could have been named Veronica or Victoria, born ?, died ? before 1917. Sons: Charles Alexander b. 1900 d. 1981; George (i) b. ? died January 23 1916?; John Philip b. 1910 (born in Russia) d. 1973; George Peter (ii) b. 1916 (born in Pr. Albert, Sask., Canada) d. 1992; others unknown - said to have died in youth. Alexander immigrated (between 1910 and 1916) we believe in 1912 to Canada - destination: Prince Albert, Saskatchewan and was still there in 1916. This hypothesis is based (and fits the understood time line) on Ships record (which we question if it is applicable): SS Victorian Depart Liverpool 22 Nov 1912 Arrive Halifax 29 Nov 1912 Richelhof, Alexander 40 years old destination Prince Albert Saskatchewan Michael 36 years old destination Prince Albert Saskatchewan Susanna and the children must have traveled later. Or before????? They moved to Ford City, Ontario sometime between 1916 and 1924 (very probably earlier than later. He Naturalized in 1928 in Ontario as Alex Rigelhoff born in Rustarevo [sic], Russia. Naturalization of Charles Alexander Rigelhof (definitely was Alexanders son): Rigelhof, Charles Alexander Born in : Germany (???) Wife, naturalized with him, Agatha Ubell Oath Nov 12 1930 Mechanic, Riverside Ont. I know these alternative spellings could be possibilities: Rigelhof Rigelhoff Rigelhop Riglehof Regelhof Reckelhoff Reekelhoff Rekelhof Reigelhof Richelhof Rigel Interesting clues: ~1908 St. Francis Mission of the St. Joseph's Catholic Settlement in Saskatchewan, in the town of Luseland - "The first Parishers were Jacob Ulrick, John German and Family, Peter Gerinsky and Family, John Rigelhof, Frank Schmitt and Adam Heilman." Also spelled Reigelhof in another reference that states he was there with three sons-in-law - we would love to know who they were! This puts a Rigelhof in Saskatchewan BEFORE 1912 . . . Known to the elders in our family that there were/are extended family members in Minnesota or eventually ended up in Minnesota perhaps via Canada. Pure conjecture based on Western Land Grants (Canada) that Alexander Rigelhof and his potential brothers or cousins all came to Canada (Sask.) around the same time. We appear to know that a family member named did Michael travel with Alexander (if the ship's manifest does pertain to our Alexander) but the others could have come earlier or later. I have found in the Western Land Grants from 1870-1930 entries for Henry Rigelhof, George Rigelhof, Frederick Rigelhof, Johannes Richelhof and Anthony F. Rigelhop. This George Rigelhof is NOT the surviving child George (ii) of Alexander Rigelhof - of this I am totally certain. Most of these grants appear to be for land in Alberta near the border to Saskatchewan or in Saskatchewan. I found, and have no way of knowing if it is a connection, a death record for a Michael Rigelhof in 1953 in Minnesota - Hennepin County. Also an entry for a George Rigelhof d. 1963 in Minnesota - Ramsey County - as well. This is NOT George (ii) of Alexanders. A naturalization record for an Antony Frederick Rigelhof, born in Russia, oath in 1920, occupation - clerk, lived in Altario, Alberta. An entry on a passenger list for the SS Ausonia for Regelhoff, Heinrich age 18, departed Southampton 16 May 1912, arrived Quebec 26 May 1912 destination Battlford [sic] SK. Found two entries for canceled cattle brands listed for (which I need to follow up on for more information): Rigelhof, George from Altario Richelhoff, Fred from Donalda __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
