    3. Jim, Thanks for your reply. You are close, but the villages I mentioned are east of the Tiligul. A good detailed map is at http://sunsite.berkeley.edu/EART/x-ussr/100k/L-36-039.jpg . Click on the map to zoom in, and go to the right hand side, about half way down. There you will see the villages Berezanka, Krasnoe, and Vasylivka (in cyrillic), and the name of the stream as "Cocuk", as far as I can tell. I don't know what it means, but I did find the word on the Net somewhere as Arabic for "follower of a spiritual path" or "follower of God". It also appears to be a Turkish word. I would like to know what it means in Russian, and if the river still has the same name. It appears to be an intermittent stream rather than a continuously flowing river. Russia Dennis I find a Berezovka about 10° east of north, 45 miles from Odessa. It is near the north of an estuary named Tiligulskiy Liman (Estuary). It is fed by many minor drainages but only one has a name, Tiligul, that passes next to Berezovka. Berezovka is about 1/2 mile north of the estuary. There are 2 other villages in the area but the names are not posted. One of which is on the same river even closer to the estuary. My source is a map "Tactical Pilotage Chart," a chart used by aircraft pilots, posting data available in 1988. Hope this helps. What is the English name for this. I have observed this on other maps as the "Salik" river. The towns/villages of Berezanka, Krasna, and Vasylivka are located along the river/stream before it enters the estuary. Any help appreciated on this.
