    3. Loveland FYI Loveland, Colorado 12-02-01 George C. Becker Sr., 68, of Berthoud, died Nov. 26, 2001, at Applewood Living Center in Longmont. He was born July 28, 1933, in Nance County, Neb., to George O. and Zella Fern Kinney Becker. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict following his high school graduation. He married Margie M. Sladek on April 11, 1953, in Memphis, Tenn. She preceded him in death. Mr. Becker worked for IBM as a computer programmer, developing programs for NASA and the Apollo space program. He also was involved as a programmer for the Star Wars project, retiring in 1984. He moved to the Berthoud area from Tucson, Ariz., in 1986. He was instrumental in the starting of Service Alert with Scott and Kathy Graham, who designed a restaurant pager system. For the last number of years he enjoyed traveling the United States, seeing sites and visiting friends. His fondness and love of Corvettes eventually led him to buy a 1999 Corvette, which he took to the road visiting warmer states in the winter and northern states during the summer months. He also enjoyed camping and fishing with his family. Mr. Becker is survived by two sons, George Becker Jr. and wife Andrea and Jerry Becker and wife Denise, all of Longmont; two daughters, Anita Vanover and husband Rodney of Berthoud, and Joanne Schultz and husband James of Longmont; a sister, Mary Lou Polocoff and husband Dave of Wheat Ridge; 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Howe Mortuary Chapel in Longmont. David Bradshaw, of LifeBridge Christian Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Longmont Mountain View Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hope Cancer Care Center in care of Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman St., Longmont, 80501.
