(not to be confused with Rachel Schmidt of GRHS.ORG ) > : per http://www.webbitt.com/volga/lower/obituaries.htm The Lower Volga Villages Obit Project The obituary project helps link families because additional dates and details are needed on many of our entries. Rachel Smith entered hundreds of obituaries, funeral cards, headstone information and related material on computer and continues to add data when received. Village coordinators contribute obits; however, many have been received from family reseachers. If you have obits to contribute to this project, contact Rachel at rac530@aol.com. Because of the large number of obits received, only family information is listed at this website. Often found on obits but not included here are occupation, where the family lived, church and civil organizations, funeral arrangements. If you want a complete copy of the obituary, send $2.00 for the first obit, and $1.00 for each additional obit to Rachel Smith, 2834 Laura, Wichita, KS 67216. This will help cover our copy and postage costs.

    1. [GERmanRUSsian] Re: [GR-GENEALOGY] Obits.
    2. JM_on_GR_G
    3. Ruth , i agree with U. But i also want to note that Ron WAS putting in "obit" in the Subject field. Alas, he and a few others do not always put the word OBIT at the start of the message, which then makes it a lot harder to deal with. Ergo i strongly recommend that ALL contributors of obits put in the "OBIT:" thing right up front in the Subject line of the message. It GREATLY enhances the way in which recipients can follow up on obits... be it deleting them automatically or as a block, or filtering them to a special folder, etc. etc. I for one would be extremely grateful, if we were afforded that useful courtesy! Meanwhile of course i am grateful for any and all GR!!! obits... even if only one in a hundred is of use to me personally, i would hate to miss the lead!!! So thanx again contributors, and thanx in advance for a more orderly and helpful way of posting. Jay Meeuwig CC: GermanRussian-L@rootsweb.com see: http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/RUS/GermanRussian.html ----- Original Message ----- From: Ruth Boettcher To: GR-GENEALOGY@LISTSERV.NODAK.EDU Sent: Monday, March 15, 2004 10:44 AM Subject: [GR-GENEALOGY] Obits. Ron, people on the G-R listserv have so politely asked that those, includiing you, who send obituaries put in the subject line "obit" or "obituary". Politely we have asked. Politely comply, please. Messages without "obit" fills our inboxes with messages that we will not read and cannot send by "mail rules" directly to "delete." I sometimes have 100 email messages to read in one day! That is why so politely we have asked people to comply again and again. At this point, when people do not politely comply, our only recourse is to delete by name. Then it is possible that one day you send mail other that obits to the listserve. With certain names deleted, then we miss other contributions you and other "obit senders" provide. Thanks to all who send obits who politely use this information in the subject line. Thanks for your courtesy. Ruth Boettcher

    2. Ella Melik
    3. Friends, Some of you may be interested in a book about Odessa, edited by Nicolas V. Iljine, "Odessa Memories", published at the end of 2003 by the University of Washington Press. Contributions by Patricia Herlihy , Oleg Gubar and Alexander Rozenboim focus on the architecture and cultural, social & political history of Odessa before 1917. It is full of beautiful color pictures and photographs. (Just be aware that it has virtually no information about Odessa Germans and the German community.) The list price is $40, but I found new and used copies available via Amazon.com for considerably less. Ella Melik __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
