    1. [GERmanRUSsian] New mail service for Russian Poland and Volhynia Germans
    2. Jack Schultz
    3. SGGEE is pleased to announce that it has created a new mail list (also known by other names such as listserv) for the use of genealogists researching Germans in Russian Poland and Volhynia. The vast majority of these Germans were of the Lutheran faith. The name of this service, as you will see it in the subject line of the messages, is [Ger-Poland-Volhynia]. Although sponsored by SGGEE, you do not have to be an SGGEE member to subscribe to the mailing list. Your subscription to [Ger-Poland-Volhynia] will mean that most messages you receive will be more directly associated with your regions of interest. There is no charge for this service. [Ger-Poland-Volhynia] will allow you to freely interact with others in posing questions, to establish family connections, to provide answers that derive from your personal research experiences, and to learn from the successes and failures of others. SGGEE will continue to maintain its Bulletin Board as long as it continues to be used. The Bulletin Board will still likely be used by people who are surfing the Net and by those who prefer not to subscribe to any mail lists. The mailing list we have created uses a system (known as Mailman) which we feel is easier than any other to use and to set with your preferences. Instead of sending special email messages that must be created in a specific format to function correctly, you simply go to a web page to create your own unique service protected with a password. You can also use that web page to start and stop your service when you are on vacation. The mailing list is archived so that you can go to a web page to read or review all past messages. For a statement of purpose, guidelines, and the link to the free subscription page, please go to http://www.sggee.org/listserv.html If you have any problems or questions regarding subscription, please contact the list administrator at [email protected] Schultzie (Jack Schultz) Get your Free E-mail at http://genealogy.zzn.com ____________________________________________________________ Get your own FREE Web and POP E-mail Service in 14 languages at http://www.zzn.com.

    1. [GERmanRUSsian]
    2. Dear Lister; In doing the extractions for the Germans from Russia from the 1920 U.S. Federal Census you come across some really interesting facts. I hadn't realized until someone asked what the dates of the enumeration was that different States took the census at different times. I went back through the ones that I have done and found that Colorado did their's in January and Febraury; Nebraska in June; Washington in March through May; Montana in Febrary through April. That gives you a wide range of times when a family could be moving from one place to the other and actually miss the census taker all together. Especially if they moved from on state that took their census in the summer to a state that took theirs in the late winter. It also makes you wonder how many families and individuals were missed altogether because of this taking place. I also don't know when the Census began to be taken at the same time as it is now.
