    1. [GERmanRUSsian] Fleck(flach)/Briggs(brick)
    2. Cindy Johnson
    3. Hello everyone. I'm new and I've been looking for information on my great-grandparents. My great Grandmother was Marie Catherine Briggs (brick?). She was from the village of Laub. She was born 22 Dec. 1880 and died 10 June 1966. My great Grandfather was Adam Fleck (Flach) he was from the village of Jost. He was born in 1878 and died 29 Oct. 1927. They both lived in the village of Pobochnoye before immigrating to this country. They came here about 1913. My grandmother had told me that they came on the Czar to Ellis island. I've spend months at the Ellis island site and can't find anything about them. The family story is that the Flecks were very well off. My Great Grandfather came here first and then my great GrandMother with her mother in law and 4 children came with "staff" to help them. They traveled 1st class. I did find an Adam Flach who traveled Steerage in 1912 at the Ellis island site but it appears he wasn't allowed into the country because his name has a line drawn through it on the original ship manifest. They all finally settled in Sanger, Fresno CA. My grandmother had told me they grew grapes and had quite a bit of land. I cannot find any information anywhere to back any of this story up. If anyone on this list has any new ideas, please let me know. Or if anyone comes across these names I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you! Cindy Johnson

    2. PAUL MACAREO
    3. Hello , Here is what I have on My Mittelstadt Wilhelm Mittelstaedt( Mittelstadt) born April 17,1857 in (Dunajewitz or Dunageroik?? I dont know where this is ) He was written about in the Wishek Golden Jubilee, it mentions more about what he did for a living ETC. Wilhelm married Katharina Pleinis in Neudorf Russia had 5 children Adolf , Johannes , Katharina these 3 I have not traced fully YET, I even suspect some may have died as children or they were old enough to have their own families( I have their birth dates) But ,Ernestine ( My Gr. Grandmother) & William J. Mittelstadt these 2 came over with their Parents in 1905. According to Ellis Records they were meeting a brother of Wilhelms named Johan Mittelstaedt in Wishek, ND. I found a John Mittelstadt in Mcintosh, ND. The same County that My Wilhelm applied for Naturalization in 1905 but John had applied a couple of years earlier. I suspect that My Wilhelm Mittelstadt had a 3rd brother too named Friedrick Mittelstadt but I have not been able to confirm this Yet. I was given a name birth date for the Father of Wilhelm & Johan Mittelstaedt but I cannot confirm it as correct. His name is said to have been Friedrich William Mittelstaedt born in Prussia in 1819 in an area called Samoschin??? I may have incorrect spelling. I have other Surnames connected to My Mittelstaedt Schwartz, Pleinus, Haenger, Reuther, Mckinnon ,Rowan. Let Me know if You think We connect. I have Mittelstaedt's as well (my husband's side) I have very little information on them. My Mittelstaedts's came from the Tarutino area of South Russia and settled in North Dakota. I would love to know if we have a connection! Regards, Robbyn

    2. PAUL MACAREO
    3. Hello, Can Anyone tell Me if there are Froehlich & Schultz Surnames being researched on this list. I apologize for the length of My E-mail but I really would appreciate Any advice from some of You out there. I ask because I have had some success in My Mittelstadt Research ( My Gr. Grandmother Ernestine born in Russia 1892) but I have been unable to find anything on Her Husband William Froehlich( My Gr. Grandfather ) I know that Ernestine arrived With Her Parents Wilhelm & Katharine in 1905 & they settled in Wishek , ND. & I found a William Froehlich Naturalization Application 1910 ND. & I know that in 1913 they had their Son Reinhold Gottlieb Froehlich ( My Grandfather AKA Ray) in Racetrack, Montana( Powell County Area). Eventually they ended up in Muskegon, Michigan . I originally knew that My Mittelstaedt Family came through Russia & I am able to trace them BUT I really need to know if their is ANYONE with Froehlich or Schultz on their list of Germans from Russia. Why? Well! My Story gets even more confusing because William Froehlich was not a True Froehlich, He was in fact a Schultz born in Germany abt. 1885 He used the name William Froehlich to enter the USA abt. 1903-1909 I do not know Why He did this but He did. His Parents were Michael & Elisabeth Schultz & He has 4 Siblings 2 brothers named Louis (Lewis) Schultz Gottlieb (George) Schultz They also came to the USA but they used their true names Schultz& all 3 came over separately & I have nothing else on them. the 2 Sisters remained in Germany their names are Helen (Schultz )Kern > She was in Hagenow, Germany in 1940-1950 time period she lived near the Church (I have an old address) Emma (Schultz ) Kern > She was living in Clausthal-Zellerfeld in 1940-1950 time period ( I have an old address ) Were most ND. German Immigrants from Russia???? Cindy Kay Wilhelm

It's a New Year, we have a lot of new subscribers to the list, so it is a good idea to do such an introduction! For recent and longtime subscribers alike. Are the villages which you are interested in mostly catholic ones? For that will tell is whether we're dealing with SULZ (e) or SELZ (c), as both names <villages> existed. ;j. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Marlboro" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, January 07, 2002 7:45 AM Subject: [GERmanRUSsian] KLOTZ, SCHMIDT, WEIMER, STICKA, HACK, HOFFER > Hello, > > I thought I might put my names out to start the year off.
