I am looking for the correct name of the river that enters the Beresan estuary. On recent Ukrainian maps it is shown as "Cocuk" in cyrillic. What is the English name for this. I have observed this on other maps as the "Salik" river. The towns/villages of Berezanka, Krasna, and Vasylivka are located along the river/stream before it enters the estuary. Any help appreciated on this. Thanks.
Hello I am new to this whole thing of researching genealogy. I've started to complete or family tree but I need help! Our immigrant ancestor came to the USA in May of 1889. His name was Julius Keller. He married Elisabeth Schaeffer also from Elsass. He immigrated with one child Johanna 6 1/2 mos. They settled in ND and had 9 more children. I am looking for information on the family in Russia. Julius was born 1 Sept 1865 in Elsass to Joseph and Teressa (Theresia?) Goetz (Gotz?). Joseph and Teressa had six children, Lawrence who served in the Russian army. Elizabeth (Schmidt), Martin, Julius, Rosina and Walter. Some of them settled in Canada. I'm told that Joseph followed Julius and his family to ND. Any help anyone can give me on this family in Russia? Thank you.
Hello. My ggrandparents lived in Volhynia. I am new to the list, and joined because I just found my ggrandparents who were married in Heimthal, Russia (now Jasinowka, Ukraine) a very tiny berg 20 miles NE of of Nowograd-Volynsk, Russia (now Novohrad-Volynskyj, Ukraine). My ggrandfather was born in Bromberg, Germany (now Bydgonszcz, Poland). I don't know where my grandmother was from. They had 2 children while living in Heimthal who were listed at the local church. They had another son who - on his naturalization papers - listed his birth place as Nowograd-Walinsk, Russia. The ship manifest and family records show that they came over with 9 children, and so I am looking for 8 of them. (The oldest one, Theodor, may have died or decided to stay in Russia or Germany.) If anyone has traveled there, has photos, or can help with the history of Heimthal or that area I would appreciate it. I have downloaded a map of the area, have one photo from a helper, and read much on the web sites. If anyone knows how to find more names from that area, I would appreciate it. I checked the Jew.Gen site, after a helper suggested it; that is where I found the church records. Five knowledgeable people had helped me with town names and web sites to get me this far, and I am endebted to them. Any help from someone on this list, would be appreciated also. Char The surname of the family is HÖSER. The father was Hermann Leopold HÖSER. The mother was Louise WEICHMANN (WICKMAN. WEICHMAN). Children were: Theodor (didn't cross with them) Robert Mathilda Adolph Emma Heinrich Otto Louis Rudolph Ewald (born in Nowograd-Walinsk, Russia) Again, thank you.
