I have recently found a Henry Holtzclaw (actually spelled "Holtsclaw" with an "S") in old Granville Co., NC records for the year 1764. I have a Y-DNA connection to the John Duncan who married Elizabeth Holtzclaw in circa 1760 She is buried at Sumpter Cem in Floyd Co Va. and had bro. Henry. Now what is so interesting about your note is that my ancestors also tie back to the Duke family of Bute/Granville Co., NC (Duke University bunch). Furthermore, my ancestor, Ambrose Harrison Duncan married Martha Slaughter(Schlotterer) daughter of Jacob Schlotterer who imigrated from Germany in 1749. He is said to have married a Hoffman or Huffman, but can't find any info on his wife, so she is not documented. Just interesting co-incidences, don't you think ? 1764 Tax list was for Robert Harris distr of Granville Co., NC.
