    3. I looked through the Schwaigern film a few years ago and there are at least some Wilheit families who are recorded by that name. A Hans Wilheit and his wife Ursula had two sons baptized, Marcellus and Johann Andreas on 15 July 1640 and 30 November 1641 in Schwaigern, their godfathers were Paulus Lederer and Marcel Huebner. This Paulus Lederer and his wife Margaretha had two sons, Paul and Mattheus. Paulus was the servant of his Highness the Excellency of Trautmannsdorff (Ihrer Hochherrschaft Exell. von Trautmannsdorff Diener allhier). We of course know that the Lederer family also came to Germanna. Susanna Barbara, the sister of Johann Paulus Lederer who emigrated to Germanna married a Mattheus Lederer on 20 Jan 1727/28 in Schwaigern, who might be related to the above Lederers. Johannes Christian Wilheit, born 1 July 1714 in Schwaigern married Walburga Weber, whose parents were Susanna Klaar and Philipp Joseph Weber. Susanna was the sister of Hans Michael Clore whose daughter Margaret was married to Johann Paulus Lederer, born 17 Jan 1708/09 in Schwaigern. Are we mixed up yet? Tobias Wilheit was born 15 Jul 1708 in Schwaigern, was the brother of Johannes Christian Wilheit. We don't know yet if the maiden name of Catherine, Tobias' wife was indeed Walke / Walk. So far we have not yet found a Martin Walk who had a sister named Catherine. His daughter Catherine married Johann Peter Frey in 1756 in Friedberg, and we have her memoirs, where she said: "I was born of Lutheran parents on 27 August 1739 in Culpeper County, Virginia, and was baptized there by a Lutheran preacher. My mother passed out of time during my 6th year. After my father married, he moved to North Carolina during my 11th year and [we] lived not far from Abbots Creek. " The Frey's and the Wilheits also have a connection in Pennsylvania: Maria Magdalena Willheit born 17 Sep 1712 in Schwaigern married 15 Apr 1735 at the Holy Trinity Church at Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Martin Frey the son of Tobias Frey and Maria Peter. Maria Magdalena was daughter of Johann Friederich Willheit born 8 Jan 1686/87 Schwaigern and Wilhelmina Lucretia Hafner born 27 Nov 1683. Pastor Stoever who later came to Germanna married on 1 April 1735 Martin Frey and Maria Magdalena Willheut in Codorus, PA. It is entirely possible that Tobias went to Pennsylvania to pick his wife, since we can't find a "suitable" Catherine in Virginia, maybe visiting his Willheut relatives? I have tried to see if I could make out the spelling, but it seems to be a too grainy to be certain. It does seem to me that it is Wilheit. However, I would like Al's opinion on this. The spelling in Schwaigern has always been reported as Willert and is reported that way on the settler's list. I am not a Wilheit descendent; however, have interest in this family as Tobias Wilheit interacted with my Martin Walck. Al if you see this, I hope you can inform us. 3. Elke, Thank you for posting that information. I recall some of it, but not all. My objective is to clarify the name in the Settler's List as well as for Willheit/Wilheit/Wilhoid/Wilhytd/ etc. descendents. The listing of birth and marriage records from the IGI for Wilheit of Schwaigern has a number of spellings. Of course, we know this is true of many names of the time. I am having a difficult time understanding how Willert is the name so many Wilheit descendents state as the name found in the church books in Schwaigern. It just goes to show that once something makes the rounds, it is difficult to correct it. Some of the spellings seen in the IGI did give some suggestion as to how Wilheyt could have been taken to be Willert as the ΓΏ might have looked somewhat like an "r". You asked: "Are we mixed up yet?" I am rather certain that a bunch of us are mixed up for sure. Thanks for all your help with these families. Cary

    2. Hi, This looks like new info that might finally tie in Germanna Willheits with the later Pa./Md. Willheits, who arrived in Pa. in 1731. I have seen Frey/Willhide connections in Graceham, Md.? Ed <clip> --- From Elke Hall -- "The Frey's and the Wilheits also have a connection in Pennsylvania: Maria Magdalena Willheit born 17 Sep 1712 in Schwaigern married 15 Apr 1735 at the Holy Trinity Church at Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Martin Frey the son of Tobias Frey and Maria Peter.
