I've been inputting data on East Tennessee Germanna descendants into the database and have run across something that I think should be cleared up. Many researchers have births, marriages, deaths, etc., as being Chuckey, Greene Co., TN, when the actual places were in Washington Co. Lest we confuse other future researchers, we should be careful about "places" in our databases. YES, the "mailing addresses" of these people were/are Chuckey, TN, which is in Greene Co.; however, it's just a quirk of the U.S. Postal Service that mail to that part of SW Washington Co. is delivered from Chucky, rather than from Limestone, which IS in Washington Co. There are hundreds of Germanna descendants in the Liberty Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery in Washington Co., and the majority of them were born in, were married in, and died in Washington Co. The church and cemetery is usually referred to as being "at Chuckey, Greene Co., TN". That is an error that should be corrected. Just because it's mailing address is 91 Guy Brown Rd., Chuckey, TN, does not mean it is actually located in Greene Co. It may be a small point to some, but when future genealogists try to find historical records on their "Washington Co." ancestors in Greeneville, Greene Co., they will have little luck. The records will be in Jonesborough, Washington Co., TN. As to where the church and cemetery is located, I input it as "in the Liberty Community, Washington Co., TN". BTW, the same thing applies to the Mauk Family Cemetery in Washington Co., on Bill Mauk Rd. People buried there are listed in databases as having died at Chuckey, Greene Co., TN. Same problem with mailing addresses. Regards, Sarge
