    3. Again this is from Ray Groves. He sent it to the list in PLAIN TEXT but it arrived as a blank message. I don't understand why this happened but here is his information. Jean ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- To The Germanna Colonies Research The Yager Family in Rockingham County, Virginia! WILLIAM L. YAGER William L. Yager was born about 1852, in the Stonewall District, of Elkton, in Rockingham County, Virginia. His parents were Andrew 'Jackson' Hayes Yager, and Elizabeth Runkle. His father being born in Rockingham County, Va. in 1818. And his mother, being born at East Point, Virginia, on the, 22nd of December, 1820. Both came from families with very strong German values. They were married on the 13th of September 1838, in Rockingham County. Other than the birth of their five children, there is no more information on them. Even their dates and place of death are unknown at this time. On June 14, 1876, in Rockingham County, William L. Yager married Sarah 'Columbia' Price, born about 1856, in Fredericksville, Albermarle County. From what I have been able to find out about her, she did not like to be known as Sarah. To her family, she was always Columbia Price, and after her marriage, she was Columbia Yager. William and Columbia Yager had five children, all born in Rockingham County, Va. The oldest was their only son, Charles E. Yager, born on April 3rd, 1878. The next child was their first daughter, Carrie M. Yager, born in August of 1879. My grandmother was the next to be born, Barbara Elizabeth Yager, born on the 25th of May 1881. Like her mother, she did not want to be called Barbara, or Elizabeth, but wanted to be know as Lizzis, instead. The next daughter was Nina I. Yager, born in October 1887, and the last daughter was Alice G. Yager, born on July, 22nd, of 1892. William L. Yager, died in 1896, and is buried in the Elk Run Cemetery, in Rockingham County. His wife, Sarah "Columbia" Yager, is also buried at Elk Run, having passed away in 1911. The children of William L. and Columbia YAGER all lived in Rockingham, or other counties, in Virginia. With the exception of Carrie M. Yager, there are no records past nine months for her. Charles E. Yager, died on October 21st, 1936, and is buried beside his parents at Elk Run. My grandmother married David Isaac "Marcellus" GROVE, born in Marksville, Page County, Virginia. More on her and her family in the next e-mail. Her sister, Nina Irene YAGER, married Virgil S. DAVIS, born on the 26th of February 1887, in Rockingham County, on March 1st, 1913. They have two children, Robert Virgil DAVIS, born in 1916, in Elkton, Rockingham Co., Va. And Sarah Katherine DAVIS, born on the 26th of May 1924, in Harrisonburg, Rockingham Co., VA. Nina Yager Davis died in 1967 in Harrisonburg Va. Her husband Virgil, died on January 9th, 1978, in Bedford City, Va. The last sister, Alice G. Yager, married Walter Franklin BRUCE, born the 20th of December 1894, in Rockingham, on October 7th, 1915, in Rockingham. Alice died on the 3rd of September in 1974. And her husband Walter died two month later, on the 26th of November 1974. They had one two sons, Richard Wallace BRUCE, born the 24th of April in 1917, in Elkton. He died on the 3rd of May 1999, in Luray, Page County Va. And Owen W. BRUCE, I am still looking for information on his. But I do know that Alice and her husband Walter, along with their two sons, are buried in Elk Run Cemetery, near her parents. Ray Groves Grandson of Barbara Elizabeth "Yager" Grove
