    1. [GERMANNA] Schmidt
    2. Thank you. My son is doing the 48 markers for Schmidt. Anita, Would this be the line of Hans Michael Schmidt/Smith. I descend from that line also and am collecting haplogroup results from all my ancestors. Not that I carry all of this DNA but it is interesting to me to see the various migration patterns. When you get the results, I'ld love to know what haplogroup. Our THOMA/THOMAS is E3b which is an unusal group for the majority of the THOMAS group. I suspect that we were probably something else in an earlier life that got changed along the way. E3b is predominant in the Middle East/Mediterranean area so we may even have been Jewish at some point in time. I had to smile thinking of this because that whole area was predominantly Jewish or Roman just a little over 2000 years ago with the Turks and others thrown into the mix. Anyway, I probably have my early history pretty mixed up -- so will stop before I dig the hole any deeper. TAke care. Marilyn

    2. ANITA SCHMIDT
    3. This Schmidt family is not connected with Germanna. Heinrich Franz Schmidt was born 12 March 1871 in Gelnhausen, Hesse, Germany. He graduated from the University of Heidelberg as an Evangelisch Pfarrer. He came to Dixon, IL after graduation and marriage (21 July 1896) to AnnaMartha Catherina Kessler of Verden am Aller, Hesse, Germany and came as a Lutheran missionary pastor. The family was in Gelnhausen from the 1600's. If anyone is connected to the Kessler or Schmidt families, I would like to exchange information. When my son receives the Y-DNA results, I would like to compare with the Schmidts of the Germanna group as we do not know where the Schmidts were before Gelnhausen. It is also not known where the Rausch/Rouse family originated in Germany.
