    1. [GERMANNA] Revolutionary War Pension Files @ Footnote

    3. Reviewing Vol. 14, # 1 of the Germanna Foundation newsletter, I re-read the article by Betty Johnson of "Researching Archives material on Revolutionary War Veterans. Betty, this is the clearest set of instructions I have seen. It beats NARA's online instructions by a mile. I had intended to post to the list that there is another source that is easy and costs nothing to use. The Family History centers all have Footnote.com available for their patrons at no cost. You can e-mail the copies to yourself at some Family History Centers, but not all. It is 10 cents a copy to print the images. The complete files can be retrieved by using Footnote. Personal subscriptions are available, also. I am not sure whether the original files were used or microfilm. But, the images on Footnote are so much clearer than microfilm copies. There are also typescripted names that appear in a box when you put the cursor on a name or when you are just scrolling through the image. Some larger libraries have Footnote.com available for members. I have reviewed a number of my ancestors' files and have found a few errors in my interpretation due to not being familiar with the particular script or the poor copy I obtained. Cary
