James, I thought your post elicited quite a few replies. Sometimes these rootsweb messages are like a scramble from a multi- CD player....out of sequence and at random. As far as dirty shoes, add to that filthy cars. Just last November I posted to this list about the absolutely amazing journey to the Leroy Kilby grave yard near Slate Mills to mark his service in the War of 1812. I believe I sent photos from that event to about 100 people. It was also in the Culpeper Exponent. This event occurred on a rainy day but the sun broke just in time. After we had gone through 3 gates, trespassed on private property, mired down in mud and up very steep and slippery slopes, and greeted by about 20 horses, mules and other equine of questionable genetic origin, and all of their droppings. So, at least these correspondent can certify his shoes are definitely very dirty. So was his jeep. Nothing, however, is more fun and enjoyable than than real life, in the field, experiences like these.
