To all my fellow GERMANNA COLONIES subscribers: My wife and I just returned last night from a wonderful trip into Virginia and a visit on Friday afternoon at the Germanna Foundation Visitor's Center/Research Library. I just wanted to let all of you know that if you haven't been there, you need to make this a "must go" place on your travel plans for this next year. We spent about three hours there -- which was not nearly enough, but volunteer John Howard gave us a wonderful tour of the exhibits and Germanna-related items available for viewing and an excellent overview of their research library. We also got the chance to meet Melissa Hook and Dr. Frank Turnage. We spent four years stationed in Washington, D.C., and Langley AFB, VA when I did not realize my Holtzclaw ancestor had been part of the Germanna settlement. This visit was LONG overdue and we sure hope to make our way back there in the next year. I would encourage all of you to visit the Germanna Web site (www.germanna.org) and get the necessary information to make a visit yourself. I also finally got off the dime and joined the Germanna Foundation this year and would encourage others to do the same. Lots of benefits and you get a nice member's discount on the large number of Germanna Record publications that that have published through the years.
