    3. Don, I am a Brumback and Kemper descendent but I have an early Holtzclaw genealogy that included those families as well. It seems likely that your Holtzclaw left by way of the wilderness road. One of the early Brumback immigrants from the Valley left for Ohio via that route and I have a little vignette from one of the early Brumback genealogies that describes the youngster following the covered wagon to get there. In that instance the Father stayed behind having to pay some debts before joining his family. I gather that a wagon train of a number of families were going together as I am sure that a single woman and a single younger boy would not have gone alone. I do remember that the man reported that they went about 16 miles in a day. I am currently not where this information is. I live in Williamsburg from November through June and in CT from July through October. The information is in Virginia. If you will remind me via e-mail in November I will see what else I can find in the Holtzclaw and Brumback information that I have. As you can see below, I'm the editor of the state historical society's family history and geneaolgy quarterly, and I'm planning to do an article roughly covering the subject, "The Holtzclaws Come to Kentucky." I would appreciate any information you have, but I am especially interested in any family history of route, timeframe, and method our Holtzclaw ancestors used in moving to this state. I am giving a talk at next year's NGS Conference in Charleston, SC, and it would be nice to be able to frame some of my comments around our Holtzclaw forebears. My assumption is that the early Holtzclaw family members came out of Virginia by way of the Wilderness Road. I'd love to know more and hope some of you have that kind of in-depth information.
