Sarge As Joel W married to Mary Wilhite is one of mine I have a question. Did Matthias and his brother Tobias both have a Joel? In the will I read of Tobias, Joel wasn't mentioned. Mary Broyles, Jessee, William, Michael, Conrad and wife Catherine were. I haven't a will of Joel in my program and have him dead in 1827. Have a Property List 1783, a marriage c 1766 and birth c 1743. Did Matthias(1721) ever have a will? I know Margery Ballenger married Stokeley Towles Jr. Was Mary Ballenger, wife of Matthais, Margery's sister? Any help here?

Winifred, I have no record of Tobias having a son named Joel. I agree with you about Tobias' will; I have the same data. I have essentially the same data you have on Joel. Did have different birth and marriage dates for him, but have corrected it lately; just haven't uploaded the database to Rootsweb since the changes. I do not have a will for Matthias. In fact, there are 5 marriage record references at Ancestry for Matthias and Mary and all give the marriage year as 1744. I do not believe Mary and Margery (Majorie) BALLENGER/BALLINGER were sisters. Mary was born c.1723-1725 and Marjorie c. 1740. The databases at Rootsweb/Ancestry show both with a father named Edward but it is pretty obvious the two Edwards are not the same person. Marjorie's father, Edward, was born about 1712, so he wasn't old enough to have been Mary's father. More than likely, Mary and Marjorie were cousins. One database does list Mary and Marjorie as children of the same Edward, but if you look at the dates, its obviously wrong. In that database Edward's birth is 1712 and Mary's birth 1725. Edward couldn't be Mary's father! Looks like someone found the two Edwards, decided they were the same person, and lumped children from two different families all under one Edward, ignoring the discrepancy of dates.
