In one of John's notes, he mentioned some land that involved Pastor Klug and that Michael Thomas may have marked the boundaries for the survey. Just wondering if this source is for the same transaction I needto ask John Blankenbaker if this is this was the land scheme that hewrote of at one time that had MT on the borders of the survey "Executive Journals of the Council of ColonialVirginia on page 694 of the volume for miscellaneous papers. It showsthat on 2 November 1752 the Council approved a 30,000 acre grant on theMonongahela, north of the Greenbrier and south of the Youghiogheny onwhat is called the "Goose River". This is significant since it suggeststhat the Tygart Valley River may have been called the Goose River in1752. And the name fits since names such as Goose Creek in RitcbieCounty were so named since flocks of wild geese were seen at thoselocations by early settlers (See Comstock Page 1940). Geese aremigratory birds that graze on grass which suggests that there may havebeen significant amounts of grassland in the Tygart Valley in 1752.The 1752 grant was awarded to Reverend George Samuel Klug, a Luthernminister from the area that is today in Madison County, Virginia, alongwith 17 others, evidently members of his congregation. They includeMichael Thomas, Nicholas Nutt, Jacob Burner, Henry Baughman, AbrahamMyers, Stephen Sewell, Abraham Brown, Adam Wayland, Adam Broyle, Adamand John Barler, Matthew and Nicholas Smith, Henry Ailer, MichaelRussell, John Ralchbach and Paul Lederer. At least nine of these namesappear in the early records of western Virginia" http://pages.swcp.com/~dhickman/journals/V6I3/nicknutt.html
Yes, the land that Marilyn asks about is the land that I mentioned once. Note the date of 1752. Before any action could be taken the French and Indian war broke out and that made any action impossible for a number of years. George Samuel Klug's son tried to revive the action about a decade later but nothing came of it.
