Miss comments on Germanna_Bounces. Hope that means people are working on their own family lines. There appear to me to be many errors and duplications on the John and Jemima Berry page. I know we are only "parallel" family, but people do respect the Germanna Research info and therefore will copy it.. Several Berry/Berrey researchers have discovered there are conflicting dates on the John Berry will. Is anyone close to Richmond who can copy their Microfilm version and send it to us ???. FHL's goes off the page and we are far away from Virginia. Interlibrary loan has not been able to get it from State Library of VA either.. I will reimburse any expenses. Thanks Barbara Berrey Stotler or just Barb
Hi Barbara, I have a copy of the recorded will with these dates and citations: Will dated 10 MAY 1771, Bromfield Parish, Culpeper County, recorded 5 JULY 1779, Culpeper County (WB B, p. 318-319). The will was witnessed by Elizabeth Towles, Ann Wetherall, Mary Wetherall and John Wetherall. Some in the past have jumped to the conclusion that the wife of John Berry was Jemima Wetherall, but I believe any number of us have been around that block and found that such is not the case. My copy of the will is pretty faded but next time I am at LVA I will get a digital copy and upload it to the ancestry site. That is, of course, unless someone else does it sooner. There are lots of us descended from John & Jemima Berry through their daughter Juriah who married Adam Yager, Jr. so while it is indeed a "parallell" family, it is an important one. I don't remember if it was on this list or the Northern Neck list that someone forwarded this tidbit that is interesting (John Berry with wife Jemima, sister of Joseph Mann/Marr) of Craven Co., NC, 1765): <<From: "Florence F. Moore" <fffmoore@aol.com> Subject: [VAAMHERS-L] John BERRY Date: Mon, 11 Sep 2000 18:09:29 -0700 Posted on: Amherst County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Va/Amherst/545 Surname: Berry ------------------------- In the Craven County NC Deed Abstracts, Vol. 1, 1707-1775, Book 1, "23 March 1765, John BERRY, Amhurst Co. VA appoints friend Jacob Blount in Craven Co. his attorney to prosecute a suite...for the recovery of the following negroes...I claim in right of Jemima my wife who was the sister of Joseph MAN (?) (MARR ?) of Craven Co. Wit. Richard Caswell; Test., Chris'r. Neal, Clerk of Court." It appears that John Berry was in Craven County NC with wife Jemima - does anyone in Amhurst Co. range know anything about this John Berry, his wife, his children? The Berrys are my genealogical Brick Wall, and this is the first real clue to who I think may just be a grandfather! The timeframe is correct; Craven County is definitely "in the ballpark." Can you, will you - please - if you know anything, touch base with me?
