If you had ancestors with surnames of Rector and Holtzclaw and perhaps others, I urge you to subscribe to VAFauquier rootsweb [not correct URL] for some transcriptions of certain documents pertaining to descendants of these early Germanna ancestors. A contributor has posted some documents as transcribed by John K. Gott, an author well known in and about Fauquier Co. More genealogists are discovering NEW documents for Fauquier Co., so keep yourself informed. Fauquier Co. was formed from Prince William Co. in 1759. Prince William Co. was formed 1731 from Stafford and King George Counties and many of that county's early records were destroyed in both the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. (Alas!) As our ancestors became more conversant with the English language and with land-owning practices in Northern Neck Virginia, they intermarried with their English-speaking neighbors. Therefore, you may pick up other relatives along the way. E.W.Wallace
